Shaft guide

Aldila Shaft Guide: NV, NVS, Rogue, Quaranta, Ascent and RIP

Aldila has made the NV since 2003 and it is still the shaft we point most golfers at first: a green one that launches low and an orange one that launches high, in every weight from 48 g to 89 g, at a price that leaves money for the head. Above it sits the Rogue family for faster swings and below it the sub-50 g Quaranta. This guide covers every Aldila line we stock, plus Grafalloy, which Aldila's parent company also makes.

Aldila Shaft Guide: NV, NVS, Rogue, Quaranta, Ascent and RIP

NV and NVS: the shafts to start with

The NV is a constant-taper shaft, which means it gets thinner at an even rate from butt to tip instead of in steps. That is what gives it the smooth, even feel players have liked for twenty years, and it is why the two colors can be built so differently and still feel like the same family. Green is the low-launch, low-spin shaft; Orange (the NVS) is the high-launch partner. Between them they cover 48 g to 89 g and senior through X-stiff, and the '23 version is the same shaft under new graphics.

NV '23 (current graphics)

Aldila

NV '23 (current graphics)

Aldila fits the NVS Orange flexes we sell from under 80 mph driver speed (A) to 91 to 105 mph (S). Full line: NV and NVS collection; earlier graphics in the NXT collection. The iron shafts are sold one per iron with the butt left long; see how tapered tip shaft lengths work.

Green if you spin it

Low launch, low spin, up to 89 g. The NV Green 65 S and 75 S are the two we build most for players who balloon the driver.

Orange if you need height

High launch with a bit more spin to hold the ball up. The NVS 55 A and 55 R are the usual answer for a smooth swing losing carry.

Magnum if you want it light

Under 50 g with the NV feel, in A through TX. Torque runs 5.8 in regular down to 3.4 in the TX, which is tight for the weight.

Rogue: the faster-swing family

Rogue is Aldila's tour line and the Infinity is the current version, with Aldila's Dual Torque Core and three profiles sorted by start line rather than just launch. Red has a softer tip that helps the face close for the player who starts it right; White has the stiffest tip and holds the face open for the player who starts it left; Blue is neutral. The 2nd Gen Silver 110 M.S.I. is the stiff-tipped tour Rogue in mid-low launch, and the MAX adds a woven outer layer for low torque.

Quaranta, Ascent and Synergy: light and lively

Quaranta means forty, and the line is built around 40 g and 50 g class driver shafts for the player who wants more clubhead speed from a lighter club. The Blue is the softest and lightest at 44 g in senior flex; the Sapphire keeps the weight down but tightens torque to 4.6 to 5.1 and adds a stiff flex; the Gold sits between them with a low kick point for height. Ascent Red is the higher-launch, higher-speed option at 68 g, and the Synergy Blue is a smooth 54 g stiff for the player who wants a light build without a soft one.

Full line: Quaranta collection. For other light driver shafts in senior flex, see the senior flex driver shaft guide.

Tour, Xtorsion and RIP: the heavier, lower-spin shafts

These are the lines for the player who wants a 65 g to 88 g shaft that does not spin. Tour Green and Blue are constant-taper designs like the NV but stiffer through the tip; Xtorsion adds a low-torque layup for the player who twists the shaft at the top; the RIP family uses Aldila's RIP (Reverse Interlaminar Placement) construction, which puts the stiff fibers where they resist ovalling, so the Alpha and Phenom hold their shape under a hard transition. The RIP Alpha is the one with published numbers, and its torque runs down to 2.0 degrees in the 80 X.

Where Grafalloy fits

Grafalloy is the value graphite brand under the same roof as Aldila, now rated and sold by True Temper. The ProLaunch line is the simplest fitting on this page: Blue is the high-launch shaft, Red is the low-launch shaft and Platinum sits between them, all at a similar weight, so you pick the color by what your ball flight needs and nothing else. The Pro Custom is a 48" combination-flex shaft that club builders use for long builds and odd heads. If you want a sound driver shaft for well under a hundred dollars, this is where to look, and we build every one of them with an adapter.

Trimming and installation

Aldila driver shafts are trimmed from the butt only; fairway woods take a tip trim first, usually 1", then the butt. The Aldila trimming chart has the tip trim for every model and club. Parallel iron shafts are tip trimmed per iron; taper-tip NV Comp and NV Pro shafts are not tip trimmed at all. If you would rather not trim, order it assembled and we cut it to your length.

Raw or assembled

Every Aldila driver, fairway and hybrid shaft here can ship built: adapter for your head (Callaway, Cleveland, Cobra, Krank, Mizuno, Ping, PXG, Srixon, TaylorMade, Titleist, Tour Edge or Wilson), cut to length, grip installed. The assembled Aldila shafts collection holds the driver and fairway builds and the assembled Aldila hybrid shafts collection the hybrids. The Titleist, Ping, Cobra, TaylorMade and Callaway adapter guides cover which adapter fits which head.

FAQ

Aldila shaft FAQ

What is the difference between Aldila NV Green and NVS Orange?

Both are constant-taper NV designs. The Green launches low with low spin and runs from 57 g to 89 g in senior through X-stiff. The Orange (NVS) launches high with mid-plus spin and runs lighter, 48 g to 69 g. Pick Green if you spin the ball too much, Orange if you need more height and carry.

Which Aldila Rogue Infinity should I play?

Blue if your start line is neutral and your tempo is moderate. Red if you start the ball right or fight a slice and swing about 105 mph or under; its softer tip helps the face close. White if you start it left or fight a hook and swing 91 mph or faster; its stiff tip keeps the face from closing.

What is the lightest Aldila driver shaft?
