Not sure which KBS shaft to get?

KBS makes a lot of shafts, and it can get confusing fast. Here's the 20-second breakdown.

The KBS C-Taper is the one most serious iron players gravitate toward: it's tip-stiff, low-launch, and built to flatten your ball flight and tighten up dispersion. The C-Taper Lite does the same thing at a lighter weight, which opens it up to a wider range of players. The KBS Tour is the more versatile option, with a smooth feel, mid trajectory, works well across a lot of different swing types. It's been the most popular shaft in the KBS lineup for a reason.

The $-Taper (you'll also see it called the S-Taper or Dollar Taper) is worth a look if your swing speed lands between standard flex categories. It comes in half flexes like Regular+ and Stiff+, which means a fitter can actually dial it in rather than compromise. And if you're considering making the move from steel to graphite, the KBS TGI and PGI are the ones to look at. The PGI in particular is designed to feel as close to steel as a graphite iron shaft gets.

If you're still figuring out which direction makes sense for your game, we put together a KBS shaft comparison guide that walks through every model and helps you narrow it down.

KBS Golf Shafts FAQ

What is the difference between KBS Tour, C-Taper and $-Taper?

All three are KBS steel iron shafts. The KBS Tour is Kim Braly's signature shaft, built for shot versatility with a mid trajectory and a smooth, responsive feel. The C-Taper is KBS's low launch, low spin model for a low, piercing flight. The $-Taper sits between them: KBS rates it mid trajectory with low spin, built for working the ball with tight dispersion. The C-Taper and $-Taper both run 110 to 130 g.

What are the KBS Lite shafts?

Lighter steel versions of the main models. The Tour Lite is 20% lighter than the KBS Tour, made for a higher flight and a bit more spin, at 95 to 105 g. The C-Taper Lite keeps a firm tip but launches mid-high, at 105 to 115 g. The $-Taper Lite is rated mid-high trajectory with low-mid spin, at 95 to 105 g.

Should I get a 0.355" taper tip or a 0.370" parallel tip?

It depends on your iron heads, not on the shaft. A 0.355" taper-tip shaft is made for one specific iron, so you order the shaft for each iron number. A 0.370" parallel-tip shaft is one length (the KBS Tour 0.370" is 43.5") that gets tip- and butt-trimmed for each iron, and KBS notes trimming can change how it plays. Read how tapered tip shaft lengths work, or take our Iron Shaft Finder Quiz if you are not sure which your irons take.

Should I get KBS steel or graphite iron shafts?

KBS steel iron shafts run about 95 to 130 g. If you want lighter shafts that still feel like steel, the KBS TGI and PGI are graphite iron shafts built for that. The KBS TGI shares the bend profile of the KBS Tour steel shaft and comes in seven weights from 60 to 110 g in the taper-tip version. The KBS PGI was designed by Kim Braly to give KBS Tour control in a lighter graphite shaft, in 70 g Regular+, 80 g Stiff and 90 g Stiff+. See all KBS graphite shafts.

Which KBS flex and weight should I pick?

KBS ties weight to flex, so picking a flex also picks a weight. The C-Taper, for example, runs Regular 110 g, R+ 115 g, Stiff 120 g, S+ 125 g and X-Stiff 130 g. The R+ and S+ half flexes on the C-Taper and $-Taper help if you sit between two flexes. If 110 g is too heavy, look at the Lite models or graphite. Our Iron Shaft Finder Quiz narrows it down by swing and current shafts.
