WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

The Fujikura MC Putter Shaft is a graphite putter shaft with rubber and metal composites built into it, so it soaks up the vibration a steel shaft sends to your hands while keeping the weight of a steel shaft. It comes in three models, Smooth, Firm and X-Firm, and the only thing that changes between them is stiffness: 307, 454 and 607 CPM, matched to your tempo and the length of your stroke. Every one is 35" long, 115 g, with a 0.355" tip and torque of 1.3 to 1.6 degrees. This is the raw shaft, so it gets cut and installed into a plumber's neck putter: straight in for a 0.355" neck, or tip trimmed 0.7" for a 0.370" neck, which is Fujikura's build note.

Not sure which model fits your stroke? The tempo and stroke table below sorts it out, or contact us with your putter model. The rest of the lineup is in The Fujikura Shaft Guide.

Who It's For

Good fit if you...

  • Want a softer feel at impact than your steel putter shaft gives you, without changing the head you putt well with
  • Know your tempo and stroke and want the shaft matched to it: Smooth for a slow tempo and long stroke, Firm in the middle, X-Firm for a fast tempo and short stroke
  • Have a plumber's neck putter with a 0.355" or 0.370" neck
  • Build putters yourself or have a shop that will cut it to length and install it

Not the right fit if you...

  • Have a putter that uses a single-bend, double-bend or center shaft. The MC Putter is a straight shaft for plumber's neck putters
  • Want to stay in steel. Browse the rest of our putter shafts
  • Expect a shaft to fix your stroke. This is a feel and stability upgrade, not a lesson
  • Want it installed and ready to roll. We sell it raw, so contact us before you order if you need help with the build

How It Plays

Softer at contact than steel. There's rubber composite layered into the carbon, and rubber damps vibration in a way steel can't. That's what you feel: a quieter, softer hit from the same head you've always used. Fujikura's pitch is that it makes a putter feel and sound like it has an insert, even when it doesn't.

Metal keeps the weight honest. The same metal composite construction Fujikura uses in the MCI iron shaft is in here too. Carbon and metal together give you a graphite shaft that weighs 115 g, so the heft and balance you're used to from a steel-shafted putter don't disappear when you switch.

Three stiffnesses, one weight. The Smooth is 307 CPM for a slow tempo and a long stroke. In the middle sits the Firm at 454 CPM. The X-Firm is 607 CPM for a fast tempo and a short, pop-style stroke. Torque stays between 1.3 and 1.6 degrees on all three, so the face isn't twisting on you no matter which stiffness you land in.

Picking a model, and what it fits

  • Tempo first, stroke length second. If your putting stroke is long and flowing and you'd call your tempo slow, take the Smooth. Pop the ball with a short, quick stroke? That's the X-Firm. If you've never thought about your putting tempo, start with the Firm. It's the middle of the three and the safe pick when you're guessing.
  • The 0.355" tip. It goes straight into a putter neck made for a 0.355" shaft. For a 0.370" neck, Fujikura's build note is to trim 0.7" from the tip end to fit. If you're not sure what your putter takes, contact us with the putter model before you order. Don't guess with a shaft at this price.
  • Plumber's neck putters only. It's a straight shaft with no bends in it, so the neck of the putter has to supply the offset. If the shaft in your putter now has a bend in it, this one isn't a drop-in replacement.
  • 35" raw, cut to your length. It's trimmed from the butt end to your playing length when it's installed, and the grip goes on after. Tell your builder the length you putt at and whether you want it measured with the head on.

How the Three Models Compare

Model Stiffness (CPM) Tempo Stroke Length Our Take
Smooth (You're here) 307 Slow Long The softest feel of the three. For the long, rocking stroke
Firm (You're here) 454 Intermediate Intermediate The middle option. Start here if you're unsure
X-Firm (You're here) 607 Fast Short For the pop stroke. Stiffest and most stable

All three models are on this listing, so every row is you. CPM, tempo and stroke type are Fujikura's ratings. The Our Take column is our fitting guidance, not a Fujikura number. CPM is cycles a minute with the shaft clamped at the butt and set vibrating, and a higher number is a stiffer shaft.

Related Putter Shafts

This is the only Fujikura putter shaft we carry, and it's the raw shaft: nothing cut, nothing installed, no grip. If you want to compare it with the steel and graphite putter shafts from other brands, browse all putter shafts. The Fujikura iron shaft that shares its metal composite construction is the MCI.

Frequently Asked Questions

My putter takes a 0.370" shaft. Can I use this?

Yes, as long as it's a plumber's neck. The MC Putter is a 0.355" tip, and Fujikura's build note for a 0.370" neck is to trim 0.7" from the tip end before installing it. That's a job for the bench, not a hacksaw in the garage. Contact us with your putter model before you order and we'll confirm it's a fit.

Will a graphite shaft make my putter feel light?

No, and that's the reason there's metal in it. All three models weigh 115 g, which is why Fujikura built the metal composite into the shaft instead of making a plain lightweight graphite tube. The balance of the putter stays close to what it was in steel. What changes is what you feel through your hands at impact.

Does it come cut to length or with a grip?

No. You get one 35" shaft in the model you choose, with no grip and nothing installed. The putter head isn't included either. It gets cut to your playing length and glued into your putter at the bench. If you'd like help with that, contact us before you order with your putter model and the length you putt at.

Why does the Smooth have less torque than the other two?

It's a small difference, 1.3 degrees against 1.6, and all three are low. Torque is how much the shaft twists under load. On a putter, where the forces are tiny compared with a driver, that spread won't be something you notice on the green. Pick your model by tempo and stroke, not by the torque column.

Is it right- or left-handed?

Neither. It's a straight shaft with no bend, so it isn't handed. The same shaft goes into a right-handed or left-handed plumber's neck putter.
