Who It's For

Good fit if you...

  • Want an easier launch and more carry, with spin kept low to mid
  • Like a shaft that feels stiff in the handle and tip with a little give in the middle
  • Want the Tour AD feel in a higher-flying profile than the Tour AD VF
  • Want a wide choice of weights, from about 48 grams (EK-4) to 84 grams (EK-8)

Not the right fit if you...

  • Already launch too high: look at the Tour AD VF, which Graphite Design rates low to mid launch
  • Want the lowest spin in the Tour AD line: the Tour AD DI and VF are both rated low spin
  • Want a soft, whippy tip: the EK tip is rated stiff

How It Plays

Graphite Design rates the EK mid-high launch and low-to-mid spin, with a mid kick point in every model. Its bend profile is stiff in the butt, firm in the mid and stiff in the tip, the same across EK-4 through EK-8. The slightly softer middle is where the "extra kick" comes from: it helps the shaft release energy into the ball while the stiff tip keeps the face steady.

Graphite Design uses Toray T1200G carbon fiber in the tip section along with its AD Shield technology for stability and feel. Like every Tour AD shaft, the EK is made at Graphite Design's factory in Japan.

Frequently Asked Questions

What swing speed is the Tour AD EK for?

Graphite Design's flex guide is based on driver swing speed: R2 for 71-85 mph, R1 for 86-95, SR for 92-98, S for 96-105, X for 105 and up, and TX for 110 and up. Pick the weight (EK-4 to EK-8) for the feel you like, then the flex for your speed.

What does "EK" stand for?

Extra Kick. Graphite Design gave the EK a firm mid section between a stiff butt and a stiff tip, so the shaft kicks a little more through impact for easier launch and more carry.

How is the EK different from the Tour AD DI?

Graphite Design rates the DI high launch and low spin, and the EK mid-high launch with low-to-mid spin. The DI has a softer mid and firm tip; the EK is stiff in both the butt and the tip with a firm mid.

Can this shaft be built for a fairway wood?

Yes. Select the fairway wood option and your adapter when adding to cart. Fairway builds can be cut from 38.5" to 43.5" adapter tip to grip, or built to the standard length for your head.

What's included with this assembled shaft?

The shaft arrives with your OEM-compatible adapter tip installed (Callaway, Cleveland, Cobra, Krank, Mizuno, Ping, PXG, Srixon, TaylorMade, Titleist, Tour Edge or Wilson; see all shaft adapters) and your chosen grip installed. Club head is not included. Just attach to your driver or fairway wood head and play. See full assembled shaft details.

Can I return an assembled shaft?

No. Each assembled shaft is built to your specs, so we can't restock it. Double-check your flex, length, grip and adapter before you order, and contact us if you'd like help confirming them.

Not sure which shaft is right for your game?

Text our shaft experts at (818) 473-9086 before you order. We've been fitting golfers since 1991 and are happy to talk through your swing speed, current shaft, and what you're trying to fix.

Questions & Answers

Have a Question?

Ask a Question
  • How does the EK compare to the Tour AD VF?

Both the Graphite Design Tour AD EK and Tour AD VF are designed to provide stability while maintaining a strong ball flight, but they have different launch and feel characteristics.

The Tour AD EK is generally the better choice if you're looking for higher launch with controlled low-to-mid spin. It has a smoother, more responsive feel and can be a good fit for players with a smoother tempo.

The Tour AD VF is designed with a mid-to-low launch and low spin profile. It generally feels firmer and more stable through the transition, making it a better option for players who prefer a more aggressive load and want to keep launch and spin down.

If your goal is to get the ball up a little easier without adding a lot of spin, we would lean toward the Tour AD EK.

  • Would you recommend the EK for a smoother swing tempo?

Yes, the Graphite Design Tour AD EK can be a good option for a smoother swing tempo. It has a responsive feel that can work well for players who prefer a smoother transition and want help generating launch without adding excessive spin.

That said, shaft fit also depends on your swing speed and how you load the shaft.

  • Is this shaft good for someone who wants to get the ball up a little easier without adding a ton of spin?

Yes, the Graphite Design Tour AD EK would be a good option for someone looking to get the ball up a little easier without adding a significant amount of spin.

The Tour AD EK is designed to provide a mid-to-high launch with controlled low-to-mid spin, making it a good choice for players who want a little more launch while still maintaining control of their spin.
