How We Fit a Driver Shaft

  1. Swing speed sets flex and weight

Faster swings load the shaft harder, so they need a firmer, heavier shaft. Slower swings get more from a lighter, softer one.

  2. Ball flight sets launch and spin

Drives that balloon need a lower-launching, lower-spinning shaft. Drives that fly low need more launch.

  3. Tempo and feel fine-tune it

A quick, aggressive transition suits a little more firmness, and a smooth tempo suits a softer feel. We change it in small steps.

How assembled shafts work

Questions

What swing speed needs a Regular or Stiff flex?

As a starting point, the makers’ charts put about 85 to 95 mph in Regular, 95 to 105 mph in Stiff and over 105 mph in X-Stiff. Your tempo and how your current shaft feels can move you half a step either way, which is why the quiz asks about both.

Do I need a launch monitor for the quiz?

No. Your usual carry gives a good estimate of your swing speed. If you have numbers from a launch monitor or a fitting, start with your swing speed for a sharper result. Want your own numbers? Our Voice Caddie launch monitors show them on every swing.

What does assembled mean?

Our build shop installs the adapter for your driver and a grip, so the shaft screws straight into your driver head. You choose your driver’s adapter on the shaft’s page.

Will a new shaft fix my slice?

A shaft can help with launch, spin and feel, but the clubface and swing path decide most of a slice. If you slice, the quiz keeps your flex from getting stiffer, and Griffin or our team can help you look at the rest.

Can someone check my result?

Yes. Reply to your results email and a club builder on our team will double-check it, or ask Griffin, our online fitter, any time.
