WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

The Golf Pride PRO Only is the putter grip for golfers who putt by feel. Firm rubber, a slim traditional profile and a flat paddle front, so your hands get every bit of feedback from the head. It comes in three shapes: the Red Star pistol (72 cc), the Blue Star angled back (81 cc) and the Green Star oval (88 cc), all on a 58 round core at 74.5 to 88 g.

Not sure which shape suits your stroke? Our putter grip shapes guide walks through pistol, flat, round and parallel grips and who each one tends to help.

Who It's For

Good fit if you...

  • Putt by feel and want to sense the head, not the grip
  • Play a traditional pistol or slim grip and don't want a fat paddle changing your hands
  • Like a firm grip that doesn't pack down over a season
  • Already know your shape: pistol, angled back or oval

Not the right fit if you...

  • Play a lot of wet rounds. The PRO Only Cord adds cotton cord to the same three shapes.
  • Want a fat, soft grip to quiet your hands. Look at the Zero Taper or the Reverse Taper Pistol.
  • Grip it hard. Firm grips reward a light hold; if you squeeze, a softer grip will feel better.
  • Want to know the exact width before you buy. Golf Pride publishes volume (cc), not width, for these.

How It Plays

Feedback first. Firm rubber, no padding. There's nothing between your hands and the putter head, so you feel a toe hit as a toe hit. Golfers coming off a soft oversize grip notice it on the first putt.

Three shapes, one profile. The Red Star is a classic pistol with a kick at the top back for your lead hand. The Blue Star has an angled back that fills the heel pad. The Green Star is a rounder oval for golfers who want the most grip in their palms. All three have the flat front paddle for your thumbs.

Slim and traditional. This is a tour-style grip, not an oversize paddle. If you've putted with a slim pistol for years and just want a fresh, firm one, this is the swap.

Grip weight changes how the head feels. Every 5 g you add at the grip end takes about 1 swingweight point off the putter, so the head feels lighter through the stroke. The Red Star is the lightest of the three at 74.5 g; the Green Star is 13.5 g heavier, so expect the head to feel close to 3 points lighter if you go from one to the other. Firm grips are also harder to slide on: use plenty of solvent and get it square to the face in the first few seconds, because it won't twist once it grabs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do Red Star, Blue Star and Green Star mean?

They're shapes, not colors of the grip. Red Star is the pistol, Blue Star has an angled back, Green Star is the oval. The star is a small marking on the grip; the body is black.

What's the difference between the PRO Only and the PRO Only Cord?

Same three shapes. The Cord version weaves cotton cord through the rubber for traction when it's wet; this one is plain firm rubber.

How wide is it?

Golf Pride lists the three shapes by volume (72, 81 and 88 cc) and doesn't publish a width. Think of the Red Star as a standard pistol and the Green Star as a slightly fuller oval, not an oversize grip.

Will it fit my putter shaft?

Yes, on any putter with a standard 0.580" butt, which is nearly all of them. It won't fit a swing club; those are 0.600".

Is it firm or soft?

Firm. If you want cushion, this isn't the one; look at the Reverse Taper or Zero Taper lines.
