WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
The Nippon N.S. Pro Modus3 Hybrid uses Nippon's Graphite On Steel Technology: an ultralight steel shaft bonded to graphite layers along its full length. Nippon designed it to combine the launch of graphite with the feel and dispersion of steel. We sell it in S, Tour S, X and Tour X. It arrives assembled with your choice of hybrid adapter and grip, ready to attach to your hybrid head.

Who It's For
Good fit if you...
- Play Modus3 steel in your irons and want a matching hybrid feel
- Want the solid feel of steel with some of the launch of graphite
- Want a heavy hybrid shaft, 91 to 112 g
- Play S, X or a tour flex
Not the right fit if you...
- Want a light graphite hybrid shaft
- Need R or senior flex
How It Plays
Nippon bonds an ultralight steel shaft and thin graphite layers with a patented adhesive process. The steel resists twisting for directional stability, and the graphite balances weight and stiffness while keeping a solid feel.
Nippon says the result gives a higher trajectory and tighter dispersion than a plain steel or graphite hybrid shaft, with spin control from the thin overall structure.
The S and Tour S weigh 91 g with 2.8 torque, the X 101 g with 2.5 and the Tour X 112 g with 2.3.

I’m trying to decide between the Stiff (92g) and the X-Flex (101g). Since this is a composite build, does the weight feel true to those numbers, or does it swing a bit lighter because of the graphite wrap? Also, if I’m putting this in a 2-hybrid (17-18 degrees) to use as a 'fairway finder' off the tee, does it keep the spin down enough to prevent ballooning, or is it designed more for a high-launch approach into par 5s?
This shaft has a steel core with a graphite outer wrap. So because of that, it actually plays true to the weight. You can go with the same or similar weight range as your irons if you like. Regarding spin, it has a grip kick point, or high kick, which keeps launch and spin lower. So this is a great option for your long irons too. Choosing flex is more about your swing speed and tempo. If you're playing Stiff in your irons, we'd recommend using starting with that. If you have a quick tempo and feel the face not squaring up at impact, then you may benefit from going with X-flex.

I’ve heard this 'Graphite On Steel' (GOST) technology is supposed to be the holy grail for hybrids. I currently play the Modus3 Tour 120s in my irons and love that smooth, signature Nippon feel—how close does this hybrid shaft get to that? I’m looking for something that has the tip stability of my irons but won't feel like a 'board' when I'm trying to land a 210-yard shot soft on the green.
If you love the Modus3 Tour 120, this shaft will feel very familiar. The GOST Hybrid is built around the same Modus3 Tour 105 bend profile, so that smooth, flowing Nippon feel carries right over. The steel core gives you the tip stability and dispersion control you're used to from your irons, while the graphite outer layer takes the edge off mishits. Reviewers specifically note that thin shots and toe strikes don't sting the hands the way a pure steel shaft would. It's not a magic trick, but it's about as close to "iron shaft feel in a hybrid" as anything out there. For a 210-yard approach where you need a soft landing, that combination of stability and dampening is exactly what you want.
