WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

The Fujikura Speeder NX Violet is the current mid-high launch Speeder NX, built for golfers with swing speeds between about 75 and 105 mph who want the ball up without a lot of effort. It's built on a bend profile similar to the NX Blue, with torque tightened about 10% in the tip and butt for more speed and launch, and it adds DHX, Fujikura's layup aimed at today's high-MOI driver heads. Every weight launches mid-high; spin steps down from mid-high in the 40 series to mid in the 50 and low-mid in the 60 and 70. You pick from 13 weight and flex options, 40 R2 to 70 X, and it arrives with your adapter tip and grip installed, cut to length, ready to screw into your driver or fairway wood.

Who It's For

Good fit if you...

  • Swing somewhere between 75 and 105 mph and want a mid-high launch with spin that comes down as you go heavier
  • Want a shaft that's smooth and easy to load, with a lively feel through impact rather than a dead one
  • Play a high-MOI driver head, which is exactly what the DHX layup is aimed at
  • Can't get a fairway wood up off the turf with a tip-stiff shaft and want one that loads for you

Not the right fit if you...

  • Already launch it high enough. The assembled NX Gold stiffens the mid section and is rated mid launch and low-mid spin from the 50 series up
  • Swing under about 75 mph. The assembled Air Speeder runs 40.5 to 48 g with a high launch rating
  • Want face stability and dispersion ahead of feel, with an ultra-stiff tip. That's the assembled Ventus Blue VeloCore+
  • Build your own clubs and just want the raw shaft. Grab the uncut NX Violet and save the build time

How It Plays

Mid-high launch, and the weight sets the spin. Every NX Violet build is rated mid-high launch. What changes as you go up in weight is spin and bend point: the 40 series has a low bend point with mid-high spin, the 50 moves to a mid bend point and mid spin, and the 60 and 70 hold the mid bend point and drop to low-mid spin. Torque runs from 5.7 in the 40 to 3.0 in the 70. If you like the height but want the ball to stop climbing, go heavier before you go stiffer.

Built from the NX Blue, then tightened up. The bend profile is similar to the earlier NX Blue, and the launch and spin ratings match it weight for weight. The difference is torque in the tip and butt, about 10% tighter, and the DHX layup for high-MOI heads. It's a smooth shaft to load, which is why it's our first pick for a golfer who's fighting a tip-stiff fairway shaft and can't get the ball up off the deck.

Torque tuned along the shaft, not one number end to end. Variable Torque Core is the build behind every Speeder NX, and it means what it sounds like: the twisting stiffness of the core is tuned differently in different sections of the shaft instead of being set once for the whole thing. You won't see it on the chart, which only lists one torque number for each weight; the tuning is in the layup. In your hands it's a Speeder that still loads through the middle without the loose, whippy feel a lighter shaft can have.

Before you pick your options

  • Weight before flex. The 40 series is 48 to 53 g, the 50 is 54.5 to 59, the 60 is 65.5 to 68.5 and the 70 is 77.5 to 79. Our fitting guidance: the 40 series around 75 to 90 mph, the 50 around 85 to 100, the 60 around 95 to 110 and the 70 around 100 to 115. Within each weight, go by your transition: smooth takes the softer flex, aggressive takes the stiffer one.
  • The R2 is the senior flex. It's only in the 40 series, at 48 g, and it's the softest option on the page. If you're a regular-flex player who needs more height, start with the 40 R or 50 R and leave the R2 for the slowest swings.
  • Length is measured adapter tip to grip. The number you pick is the shaft assembly with no head on it. Choose the standard length option for your brand and you get that brand's stock playing length. For a custom length, remember the head adds roughly an inch, so a driver you want to play at 45.25" is about a 44.25" tip-to-grip build. Every half inch you take off costs about three swingweight points, so if you go shorter than stock, tell us and we can add tape under the grip or you can plan a heavier head weight.

Launch, spin, bend point and torque are Fujikura's ratings, shown by weight series. The NX Gold and NX Violet rows come from Fujikura's current chart. The NX Blue and NX Green are earlier generations that aren't on that chart, so their rows are carried from our earlier listings. Fujikura doesn't publish a swing speed range for Speeder NX. The whole brand lineup is in The Fujikura Shaft Guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

I swing about 82 mph with a stock senior-flex Speeder in my driver. Will the Violet get me more distance?

The Violet 50 R is the build we'd point you to: about 54.5 g, mid-high launch with mid spin, so it helps get the ball up compared with a lower-launching shaft. Be honest with yourself about the distance part, though. A shaft on its own can't promise yards. Launch, spin, where you strike it and the loft you're playing all matter, so if you're not sure, send us your loft and current shaft and we'll talk it through before you order.

My 5 wood shaft feels too stiff and I can't launch it off the turf. Is the Violet a good fairway choice?

Yes, and it's usually our first pick for that exact problem. The Violet loads smoothly and is rated mid-high launch in every weight, so it's an easier shaft to get up from the fairway than a tip-stiff tour profile. The Ventus Blue VeloCore+ is the other option we'd mention, with more stability and a firmer feel. If ease of launch is the priority, Violet first. Choose the fairway wood option and your adapter when you add it to the cart, and go one series heavier than your driver shaft.

I want it half an inch shorter than stock. What length do I order?

Our length dropdown is measured from the adapter tip to the end of the grip, with no head on it. The standard length option for your brand is that brand's stock length, so for half an inch shorter, pick a custom length half an inch under that number. If you'd rather tell us the finished playing length you want, contact us with your head model and we'll work out the tip-to-grip number, since the head adds length (about an inch on most drivers).

I'm left-handed. Is anything different about the build?

Nothing about the shaft itself. It isn't handed, and the specs and performance are identical. The only difference is the adapter: some brands make a separate left-handed sleeve, and we install the right one for your head. Just pick your brand and we'll take it from there.

How does the NX Violet compare with the Ventus Blue VeloCore+?

Two different feels for a similar golfer. The Ventus Blue has an ultra-stiff tip and a multi-material core that keeps the face from twisting, so it's the stability-first, dispersion-first shaft. The Violet is the livelier one, with more launch and a smoother load. If your priority is a tighter shot pattern, Ventus Blue. If you want to feel the shaft work and get the ball up, Violet.
