Why go premium
Why Does a Premium Putter Shaft Matter?
The shaft connects your hands to the putter head. Most putters come with a standard steel shaft; a premium shaft is engineered for something specific.
01
Weight
Premium putter shafts range from 115 g to 210 g, making the shaft one of the biggest levers on your putter’s total weight and balance.
02
Stability
Torque ratings go as low as 1° (BGT Stability One). Lower torque means the shaft resists twisting when you miss the center.
03
Feel
Some shafts add damping materials, like Fujikura’s rubber composite, to change the vibration and sound that reach your hands.
04
Build
Head, shaft and grip work as one system. Change one, and the whole putter feels different.
Even if nothing feels wrong
The Advantages of a Premium Putter Setup
You don’t need a problem to benefit. A putter that already works can still feel more stable, more solid and more like yours.
A purpose-built shaft
Instead of a one-size steel shaft, choose one designed for a job. KBS designed the GPS to reduce steel’s flex on long putts; BGT rates the Stability One at 1° of torque.
Weight that suits your stroke
Fine-tune feel without a new putter. The KBS GPS comes in 124 g, 155 g and 210 g, and a SuperStroke CounterCore weight adds 25 to 75 g at the top of the grip.
A feel you choose
From the damped, insert-like feel Fujikura describes for the MC Putter to the firm feedback of tour steel.
A grip that fits your hands
Size, shape and taper change how much your hands get involved. A larger no-taper grip is designed to even out grip pressure; a pistol sets your top hand in the same place every time.
Keep the head you trust
You already like how it looks and lines up. Upgrade what’s underneath with our Retrofit service and keep it.
Make it yours
The KBS GPS comes in 16 finishes, from matte black to colors and a limited Rainbow edition.
Graphite vs Steel, Shaft Weight and Broomstick Putters
Graphite vs steel putter shafts
Steel is proven and comes in single and double bends, which many putters need. Graphite and composite let makers tune weight, stiffness and feel.
Graphite isn’t automatically lighter or softer: the graphite KBS GPS Heavyweight (155 g) outweighs the 124 g KBS CT Tour steel shaft. Staying with steel is a good choice if you like your putter’s feel today.
What shaft weight changes
Shaft weight adds to the putter’s total weight and shifts its balance. Some golfers find a heavier putter feels calmer; others want a lighter one to feel the head.
Think in systems, not single parts. A 155 g or 210 g shaft should be chosen together with your head weight, playing length and grip.
What is a broomstick putter?
A long putter, held with the top hand away from the body while the lower hand guides the stroke. It needs a much longer shaft, like the 49-inch KBS GPS Broomstick, and a long grip.
It’s legal as long as it isn’t anchored (Rule 10.1b). Not every head suits a long build, so check before you convert.

How Retrofit works:
Once every part in your order is in stock, we'll email your shipping label. Please don't ship your putter until you hear from us.
Send the whole putter or just the head. Turnaround starts when your putter arrives and all parts are available.
Existing shafts, grips and ferrules may not survive removal. Custom work can't be cancelled or returned once it's done.
This helps us check the neck and tip size before we build.
Additional requests aren't guaranteed, but we'll do our best. Text (408) 475-7570 to confirm.
Cancellation & Return Policy Acknowledgement *
Retrofit putters are custom built to order and can't be modified or cancelled once the order is placed. Due to the custom nature of this work, we do not accept returns or exchanges on custom clubs or shafts.
Order Turnaround Acknowledgement *
Delivery timeframe options for in stock shafts are 3-10 days and shown at checkout. If your selected shaft is not in stock, please allow extra processing time before work begins. Retrofit turnaround starts once your putter arrives and all parts are available.

Will a New Shaft Fit My Putter?
Three things decide it, and the shaft maker's model-specific instructions always come first. Not sure? Use the free fit check below.
The neck
The premium graphite shafts we carry are straight, and each maker lists the necks it supports. Putters built around a bent shaft usually need a bent steel shaft like the KBS CT Tour. Always check your exact model.
The tip size
.355 is a taper tip and .370 is a parallel tip. Your putter maker's spec for your model tells you which.
The length
Shafts are cut to your playing length. Standard putter shafts start at 35 to 38 inches raw.

FAQ
Putter Shaft & Putter Grip FAQ
What is a premium putter shaft?
A premium putter shaft is an upgrade from the standard steel shaft most putters come with. It uses graphite, composite, multi-material or tour-grade steel construction to change the putter's weight, balance and feel, and how much the face twists on putts struck off the center. Grips4Less carries premium putter shafts from KBS, BGT, Fujikura, Mitsubishi, UST Mamiya and Aerotech, and can install them in your own putter with our Retrofit service.
Does a putter shaft really make a difference?
It changes how the putter feels and behaves, but it won't make the stroke for you. The shaft affects weight and balance, how much the face twists on off-center putts, and how much vibration reaches your hands. KBS and BGT build for stability; Fujikura and Mitsubishi build for a softer, damped feel.
What is the best putter shaft?
It depends on what you want to change. The KBS GPS is our best-selling graphite putter shaft; KBS designed it to reduce the flex of steel on long putts and help keep the face from turning on heel and toe strikes. The BGT Stability One is rated at 1° of torque. The Fujikura MC Putter is a vibration-damping composite with three stiffness profiles. The 155 g KBS GPS Heavyweight adds shaft weight. For putters built around a single or double bend shaft, KBS CT Tour steel comes in both bends.
What is the best putter grip?
The best putter grip is the one that keeps your hands quiet. Golfers with nervous hands often go bigger with a no-taper grip like the SuperStroke Zenergy Tour 2.0. Golfers who like a classic feel choose a pistol grip like the Golf Pride PRO Only Cord, one of our best-selling putter grips. A SuperStroke CounterCore weight can counterbalance a heavy head.
Graphite or steel putter shaft: which is better?
Neither is better for everyone. Steel is consistent, affordable and comes in single and double bends, which many putters need. The graphite and composite shafts we carry are straight and let makers tune weight, stiffness and feel. Graphite isn't automatically lighter: the KBS GPS Heavyweight is 155 g, heavier than the 124 g KBS CT Tour steel shaft. It isn't automatically softer either; Fujikura adds rubber composite for a softer feel, while BGT and KBS aim for stiffness.
What does a heavier putter shaft do?
It adds weight along the whole putter, which changes the total weight, the balance and how the putter feels in motion. Some golfers find a heavier putter feels calmer on short putts; others prefer a lighter one for more feel. A heavier grip or a counterweight adds weight at the top instead, which makes the head feel lighter.
What is the difference between KBS GPS, GPS Heavyweight and GPS Broomstick?
They share the same graphite GPS design. The GPS is 124 g and 38 inches with a .355 or .370 tip. The GPS Heavyweight is 155 g and 38 inches with a .355 or .370 tip. The GPS Broomstick is 210 g and 49 inches with a .370 tip, for long and broomstick putters. All three are straight shafts for glue-in putter hosels.
How do I know if my putter needs a .355 or .370 tip?
A .355 tip is a taper tip and a .370 tip is a parallel tip, and each fits a different hosel bore. The most reliable answer is your putter maker's spec for your exact model and year. If you can't find it, send us the brand, model, year and a photo of the neck and we'll confirm it before you order.
Will a premium putter shaft fit my putter?
It depends on your exact putter model, so follow the shaft maker's instructions first. The premium graphite shafts we carry are straight. KBS makes the GPS for glue-in putters and shows straight, plumber's and slant hosels. Fujikura lists the MC Putter for plumber's neck putters. BGT describes the Stability One for L-neck, non-bend putters. Putters built around a single or double bend shaft usually need a bent steel shaft such as the KBS CT Tour. Don't choose by putter brand alone; one brand uses different necks across models and years. Send us your model and we'll check it before you order.
What size putter grip should I use?
If your hands get tight or busy on short putts, go bigger with no taper; it's designed to even out grip pressure. If you like to feel the putter head, go slimmer or choose a classic pistol shape. SuperStroke sizes run from 1.0 (slimmest) to 5.0 (largest).
Do oversized putter grips help with the yips?
They help some golfers. A larger, non-tapered grip spreads your hands evenly, and SuperStroke designs its Zenergy grips to minimize grip pressure. Counterweighted and wrist-lock setups are other common options. No grip cures the yips, but reducing tension in the hands is where most golfers start.
What is a counterbalanced putter and what does CounterCore do?
A counterbalanced putter has extra weight at the top of the grip to balance the head. SuperStroke's CounterCore weights (25, 50 or 75 g) screw into the end of CounterCore-ready SuperStroke grips, and SuperStroke says they help stabilize the stroke. The Zenergy Tour 1.0 and TLT grips don't take a weight.
Are armlock and broomstick putters legal?
Yes, as long as the putter isn't anchored against your body, which the Rules of Golf (Rule 10.1b) have banned since January 1, 2016. Holding the grip against your forearm is allowed, so armlock is legal. A broomstick putter is a long putter, around 49 inches raw with the KBS GPS Broomstick, held with the top hand away from the body. Not every head suits a long build, so ask us before you convert.
Can Grips4Less reshaft my putter?
Yes. With Retrofit you buy the shaft and grip from us, add Retrofit to the same order, and send us the whole putter or just the head when we email your shipping label. We install your new shaft at your playing length, fit the grip and send it back ready to play. Build your setup with Retrofit.
How much does it cost to reshaft a putter?
At Grips4Less, Retrofit labor is $25 per club, plus the shaft and grip you choose and shipping both ways. Premium putter shafts run from about $40 for KBS CT Tour steel to $330 for BGT Stability One, and putter grips from about $17 to $40.
Can I install a new putter shaft myself?
Yes, if you have club-building tools and experience: the old shaft has to be removed, the hosel cleaned, the new shaft cut to length and epoxied, and the grip installed straight. If you'd rather not, our Retrofit service does it for you.
Should I upgrade my putter shaft or buy a new putter?
Upgrade if you like how the head looks, sits and lines up, and you want it to feel better, heavier or steadier. Buy a new putter if the head shape itself doesn't suit your eye or stroke. Sometimes a new grip is all you need, and we'll tell you if so.
