WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

The Fujikura Ventus Black with VeloCore+ is the low-launch, low-spin driver shaft in the Ventus family, built for golfers who swing 95 mph and up and want the flight brought down and the dispersion tightened. The tip is ultra-stiff, the mid is stiff and the handle is ultra-stiff, so neither end of the shaft gives at impact. Fujikura says Ventus Black was in the driver of all four 2025 men's major champions, something no shaft brand had done before. You pick from 8 options, 5 S through 9 X, and it arrives with your adapter tip and grip installed, cut to length, ready to screw into your driver or fairway wood.

Who It's For

Good fit if you...

  • Swing 95 mph or faster and still launch it too high or spin it too much out of a stiff shaft
  • Load the shaft hard from the top and want a handle that doesn't give
  • Want a flat, penetrating flight that holds its line in the wind
  • Want the lowest-flying Ventus built to your specs and ready to screw in on arrival

Not the right fit if you...

  • Swing under about 95 mph or have a smooth tempo. The Ventus Blue keeps spin low with a profile you can load, and the Ventus Red adds launch on top of that
  • Need an R or R2 flex. The Black only comes in S and X
  • Have a very quick transition and want the Black flight with Spread Tow in the mid and handle. That's the 2026 Ventus TR Black
  • Build your own clubs and just want the raw shaft. Grab the uncut Ventus Black and save the build time

How It Plays

Stiff at both ends, on purpose. The ultra-stiff tip stops the shaft kicking through early at the bottom, and the ultra-stiff handle keeps the butt end from loading up at the top. Between them, the launch gets held down from both directions. This isn't a shaft that rewards easing up on it. Give it a full, committed move and it stays dead quiet through the ball.

Low launch and low spin in every option. All 8 are rated the same way, with a high bend point. That bend point sounds backwards for a low launcher, and it would be if bend point were the whole story. It isn't. The stiffness of the sections on either side of it is what decides how the shaft releases, and on the Black those sections overrule where it bends.

The core is the whole point. VeloCore+ is a multi-material bias core that runs the full length of the shaft and keeps the tip from twisting on heel and toe hits. The plus version adds another core material over the original VeloCore, and the goal is the same: tighter dispersion and a little more ball speed on the hits that aren't flush. Think of it as a brace inside the shaft that holds the face where you delivered it, even when you didn't deliver it to the middle.

Before you pick your options

  • Weight before flex. The Black 5 is 59.5 g, the Black 6 is 66 to 66.5 g and the Black 7 is 75 to 75.5 g. If your current driver shaft is in the low 60s, start with the Black 6. When you want more stability, go up a series before you go up a flex, because the heavier shaft calms the head without making the whole club feel stiff.
  • S or X. Go by your transition, not just your speed. A quick, aggressive move from the top wants the X. A smoother tempo at the same speed is happier in the S. If you're on the fence, take the S, because the Black is already the firmest profile in the family and the X on top of that is a lot of shaft.
  • Length is measured adapter tip to grip. The number you pick is the shaft assembly with no head on it. Choose the standard length option for your brand and you get that brand's stock playing length. For a custom length, remember the head adds roughly an inch, so a driver you want to play at 45.25" is about a 44.25" tip-to-grip build. Every half inch you take off costs about three swingweight points, so if you go shorter than stock, tell us and we can add tape under the grip or you can plan a heavier head weight.

Graphite. Raw length 46" before we cut it, parallel tip section 3.0", tip diameter 0.335" (our measurement; the tip diameter isn't on Fujikura's chart). Tip flex and butt flex are Fujikura's stiffness ratings; within a model, the stiffer flex has the lower number.

How the Ventus Family Compares

Profile Launch Spin Bend Point Tip / Mid / Handle Weights Our Speed Guide
Ventus White High Mid-high Low Firm / Medium / Soft 49.5 g 70 to 95 mph
Ventus Red Mid-high Mid Low Stiff / Firm / Ultra-stiff 59 to 94.5 g 70 to 105 mph
Ventus Blue Mid Low Mid Ultra-stiff / Stiff / Firm 58 to 94 g 85 to 110 mph
Ventus Black (You're here) Low Low High Ultra-stiff / Stiff / Ultra-stiff 59.5 to 93 g 95+ mph

Launch, spin, bend point and section stiffness are Fujikura's ratings. The speed column is our fitting guidance from building these for customers, not a Fujikura number. Want the Black flight with Spread Tow fabric in the mid and handle? That's the assembled 2026 Ventus TR Black. The whole brand lineup is in The Fujikura Shaft Guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

I drive it about 225 and play a regular flex. Is the Black for me?

Probably not, and it's a question we get on this page. A 225-yard drive usually means a swing speed somewhere in the 80s or low 90s, and at that speed the Black's ultra-stiff tip and handle hold the launch down past the point where it helps you. Most golfers in that range get more distance from the Blue, or from the Red if they need height. Before you order any of the three, tell us your typical miss and ball flight, and whether 225 is carry or total, and we'll point you at the right model, weight and flex.

How much lower does the Black fly than the Blue?

Both are rated low spin, so the difference you see is peak height and a flatter descent rather than a different spin number. The Blue is rated mid launch with a mid bend point; the Black is rated low launch with a high bend point and a handle that's ultra-stiff instead of firm. For the same golfer, that shows up as a lower, more boring flight that lands with more run. If you're already at the bottom of the launch window with a Blue, the Black will take you below it.

What's the difference between the Ventus Black and the 2026 Ventus TR Black?

Both have the VeloCore+ core and both are rated low launch, low spin with a high bend point. The TR Black adds Spread Tow carbon fabric in the mid and handle, which cuts twist during transition, and it runs a few grams heavier in each series. If you load the shaft very hard on the way down, the TR is built to stay more neutral. If you want the standard Black feel, this is the one. The difference is more about feel through transition than a different ball flight.

I spin the ball a lot. Will the Black fix it?

Maybe. High spin has more than one cause. If you spin it because your current shaft is too soft and kicks early through impact, the Black helps a lot. When the spin comes from angle of attack, face position or path, the shaft alone won't fix it. Not sure which one you are? Contact us before you order. A shaft is an expensive way to solve a problem that might need a lesson instead.

I want it half an inch shorter than stock. What length do I order?

Our length dropdown is measured from the adapter tip to the end of the grip, with no head on it. The standard length option for your brand is that brand's stock length, so for half an inch shorter, pick a custom length half an inch under that number. If you'd rather tell us the finished playing length you want, contact us with your head model and we'll work out the tip-to-grip number, since the head adds length (about an inch on most drivers).

Can I use this in a fairway wood?

Yes. Choose the fairway wood option and your adapter when you add it to the cart. Most golfers go one series heavier in the fairway than in the driver, so a Black 6 driver player usually ends up with a Black 7 or 8 X in the 3 wood. The 9 X is the one for a 7 wood or 9 wood where you want the spin held down off a higher loft.

Not sure which shaft is right for your game?

Text our shaft experts at (818) 473-9086 before you order. We've been fitting golfers since 1991 and are happy to talk through your swing speed, current shaft, and what you're trying to fix.
