WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

The Fujikura Ventus Black with the original VeloCore is the low-launch, low-spin driver shaft of the first Ventus line, built for the golfer who hits it high with a hard transition and wants the flight down. The tip is ultra-stiff, the mid is stiff and the handle is ultra-stiff too, with a high bend point, so nothing gives when you go after one. You pick from the three options we stock in the original line, 5 X, 6 S or 7 S, and it arrives with your adapter tip and grip installed, cut to length, ready to screw into your driver or fairway wood.

Not sure Black is your profile? Take the 2-Minute Shaft Quiz or compare every profile in our Fujikura Ventus Shaft Guide.

This is the original VeloCore version. Fujikura's current Ventus Black is built on VeloCore+, which adds another material to the multi-material bias core, aimed at tighter dispersion and more ball speed on mishits. The profile is the same low launch and low spin, and the current version comes in 8 options from a 5 S to a 9 X. If you want the newest build or a weight and flex we don't have here, order the assembled Ventus Black VeloCore+. If you already play the original and want it built to your specs, you're in the right place.

Who It's For

Good fit if you...

  • Launch it high and spin it too much even in a stiff shaft, and want a flatter, more penetrating flight
  • Have a fast, aggressive transition and want a handle that doesn't give at the top
  • Already play the original Ventus Black and want the same shaft built to your specs, not the VeloCore+ update
  • Want a 3 wood shaft for a strong swing, with the 7 S here for that job

Not the right fit if you...

  • Need help getting the ball up or come up short on carry. The original Ventus Red launches higher with a low bend point
  • Want the low spin without the low launch. The original Ventus Blue keeps spin down with a mid bend point and a friendlier handle
  • Need a weight or flex we don't stock in the original, such as a 5 S, 6 X or 8 X. That's the assembled Ventus Black VeloCore+
  • Build your own clubs and just want the raw shaft. Grab the uncut original Ventus Black and save the build time

How It Plays

Firm at both ends. The handle and the tip are both ultra-stiff, with a stiff mid between them. Load it hard and it holds. Swing it easy and it feels like a board, so if your tempo is smooth, we'd point you to the Blue even at the same speed. This shaft rewards the golfer who goes after it.

Low launch, low spin, the lowest flight of the original three. The high bend point keeps the ball down, and the ultra-stiff tip keeps the face from adding loft at impact. Red is mid-high launch with mid spin; Blue is mid launch, low spin. If your drives balloon and fall out of the sky, this is the profile that fixes it.

The core is the whole point. VeloCore is a multi-material bias core that runs the length of the shaft and keeps the tip from twisting on off-center hits. The VeloCore+ version that replaced it adds one more core material to the same idea. The goal didn't change between the two: a square face and ball speed on the hits that aren't flush.

Before you pick your options

  • Three options, three jobs. The 5 X at 58 g is the light, extra-stiff choice for a fast swing that wants speed. For a driver, the 6 S at 64 g is the one we'd start you in. The 7 S at 77 g is the 3 wood weight, or the driver shaft for someone already playing something in the mid 70s.
  • Pick by transition, not just speed. The high bend point and the firm handle already do the work of keeping the flight down, so you don't need to over-flex it. If you're between S and X, the 6 S or 7 S is the safer pick. Go to the 5 X only if you snap it from the top.
  • Length is measured adapter tip to grip. The number you pick is the shaft assembly with no head on it. Choose the standard length option for your brand and you get that brand's stock playing length. For a custom length, remember the head adds roughly an inch, so a driver you want to play at 45.25" is about a 44.25" tip-to-grip build. Every half inch you take off costs about three swingweight points, so if you go shorter than stock, tell us and we can add tape under the grip or you can plan a heavier head weight.

Specifications

Model Flex Weight (g) Tip Flex Butt Flex Torque Butt Dia. Bend Pt. Spin Launch
Black 5 X 58 93 80 3.3 0.602 High Low Low
Black 6 S 64 92 81 3.4 0.605 High Low Low
Black 7 S 77 92 74 3.1 0.605 High Low Low

Graphite. Raw length 46" before we cut it, parallel tip section 3.0", tip diameter 0.335" (our measurement; Fujikura's chart never listed tip diameter). Tip flex and butt flex are Fujikura's stiffness ratings; within a model, the stiffer flex has the lower number.

Specs carried from our previous listing; Fujikura no longer publishes a chart for this version.

How the Original Ventus Family Compares

Profile Launch Spin Bend Point Tip / Mid / Handle Weights We Stock
Ventus Red Mid-high Mid Low (9 X: low-mid) Stiff / Firm / Ultra-stiff 58 to 94 g
Ventus Blue Mid Low Mid Ultra-stiff / Stiff / Firm 58.5 to 86 g
Ventus Black (You're here) Low Low High Ultra-stiff / Stiff / Ultra-stiff 58 to 77 g

Launch, spin, bend point and section stiffness are Fujikura's ratings for the original line, carried from our listings. The weight column is what we stock in the original VeloCore version, not Fujikura's full range. Want the Black profile with Spread Tow fabric in the mid and handle? That's the assembled original Ventus TR Black. The whole brand lineup is in The Fujikura Shaft Guide.

Prefer to Build It Yourself?

The same shaft is available uncut with nothing installed: the Fujikura Ventus Black Driver & Fairway Shaft (Original VeloCore), in every weight and flex on this page. Pair it with an adapter from our OEM shaft adapters and you're set. See every assembled shaft we build, or browse all driver and fairway shafts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does 6 series mean stiff?

No, the two are separate choices. The series number is the weight class, so a 6 series is in the mid 60s in grams, and the flex letter after it is the stiffness. Pick 6 Series / S-flex and you get a 64 g shaft in stiff. The 5 series here only comes in X and the 7 series only in S, so the dropdown shows the pairings we actually stock.

What's the difference between the Black and the Blue?

Black is low launch and low spin, very firm, and built for faster swings or golfers who hit it hard and high. Blue is mid launch with low spin, easier to load, with a smoother feel in the hands, and it fits more golfers. If you're not sure you need the Black, you probably want the original Ventus Blue.

I want it half an inch shorter than stock. What length do I order?

Our length dropdown is measured from the adapter tip to the end of the grip, with no head on it. The standard length option for your brand is that brand's stock length, so for half an inch shorter, pick a custom length half an inch under that number. If you'd rather tell us the finished playing length you want, contact us with your head model and we'll work out the tip-to-grip number, since the head adds length (about an inch on most drivers).

I'm left-handed. Is anything different about the build?

Nothing about the shaft itself. It isn't handed, and the specs and performance are identical. The only difference is the adapter: some brands make a separate left-handed sleeve, and we install the right one for your head. Just pick your brand and we'll take it from there.

Can I use this in a fairway wood?

Yes. Choose the fairway wood option and your adapter when you add it to the cart. The 7 S is the natural 3 wood choice for a Black 6 S driver player. This profile launches low, so off the deck it suits a strong player who already gets a 3 wood up without trying.

Not sure which shaft is right for your game?

Text our shaft experts at (818) 473-9086 before you order. We've been fitting golfers since 1991 and are happy to talk through your swing speed, current shaft, and what you're trying to fix.
