WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

The Fujikura Air Speeder is the lightest wood shaft on Fujikura's current chart, redesigned for 2025 for golfers who need help with club speed and height more than they need help with spin. It launches high with mid spin and a low bend point, and the whole idea is a shaft you can swing faster without trying harder. This is the raw shaft: 46" uncut, 3.0" parallel tip, 0.335" tip diameter, in four options from a 35 R3 at 40.5 g to a 40 S at 48 g. If you build your own clubs or have a shop you trust, this is the listing you want.

Not sure a lightweight shaft is the answer? Take the 2-Minute Shaft Quiz or compare every model in The Fujikura Shaft Guide.

Who It's For

Good fit if you...

  • Swing a driver under about 90 mph and want more carry from a higher peak height
  • Feel like you're working too hard to get a heavier shaft moving
  • Need a real ladies or senior flex, since this one runs from R3 up to S
  • Build your own clubs or have a fitter who'll cut, tip and install it for you

Not the right fit if you...

  • Swing much over 90 mph or already hit it too high. A shaft this light gets harder to control as speed goes up. The Ventus White keeps the weight down but adds a firm tip and the VeloCore+ core
  • Want one simple option with no flex decision. The Sakura 40 is 47.5 g in a single lite flex, high launch with a touch more spin
  • Want it cut to length with the adapter and grip already on, ready to screw into your driver. Order the assembled Air Speeder instead

How It Plays

Light enough to change your club speed. At 40.5 to 48 g, every option is lighter than a Ventus White, and the 35 R3 is the lightest row on the chart. Fujikura's stated goal for the 2025 redesign was more swing speed, more ball speed, a higher peak and more carry. For the golfer it's built for, the extra speed comes from the club getting out of the way, not from swinging harder.

High launch, mid spin, low bend point. The low bend point and high torque let the shaft load easily and help the ball up without you forcing it. Every flex carries the same launch and spin rating. What changes as you move from R3 to S is weight, stiffness and torque.

Torque is high, and that's on purpose. It runs from 9.0 in the R3 to 7.5 in the S, roughly double a Ventus. At the swing speeds this shaft is for, that twist is what gives it the smooth, easy-loading feel. If your move from the top is quick and aggressive, you'll feel that twist as looseness, and that's your sign to look at the Ventus White instead.

Picking a flex, and what to tip

  • Go by swing speed first. Our fitting guidance: R3 under 60 mph, R2 about 60 to 70, R about 70 to 80 and S about 80 to 90. Fujikura doesn't publish speed ranges, so these are ours.
  • Tempo breaks the tie. Between two flexes, a smooth tempo takes the softer one and a quick move from the top takes the stiffer one. The S is where we'd start most golfers in the mid 80s who want to try an ultralight shaft.
  • Adapter needed for an adjustable hosel. The 0.335" tip fits every current driver and fairway sleeve in our shaft adapters. Epoxy it yourself, or order the assembled listing and we install it set to your hosel setting.
  • Tip trimming. Fujikura's chart is 0" for a driver or 3 wood, 0.5" for a 5 wood, 1.0" for a 7 wood and 1.5" for a 9 wood, and every inch you tip plays roughly one flex stiffer. Those are suggestions only, and the chart doesn't recommend tipping a driver or 3 wood shaft at all. On a shaft this soft, tipping a 5 wood the 0.5" on the chart is a sensible way to firm it up a hair.

Graphite. Raw length 46", parallel tip section 3.0", tip diameter 0.335" (our measurement; the tip diameter isn't on Fujikura's chart). Tip flex and butt flex are Fujikura's stiffness ratings; within a model, the stiffer flex has the lower number. Fujikura's chart lists the R3 as the Air Speeder 35 and the other three as the Air Speeder 40. Our dropdown groups all four under the 40 Series. Same four shafts.

How the Lightweight Fujikura Shafts Compare

Shaft Launch Spin Bend Point Weight Flexes We Sell Our Speed Guide
Air Speeder (You're here) High Mid Low 40.5 to 48 g R3, R2, R, S Up to 90 mph
Sakura 40 High Mid-high Low 47.5 g One lite flex Under 75 mph
Ventus White High Mid-high Low 49.5 g R2, R, S 70 to 95 mph

Launch, spin and bend point are Fujikura's ratings. The speed column is our fitting guidance from building these for customers, not a Fujikura number. Want a light shaft with the VeloCore+ core, a multi-material bias core that keeps the tip from twisting on off-center hits? That's the Ventus White. The whole brand lineup is in The Fujikura Shaft Guide.

Want It Built and Ready to Play?

Same shaft, same four options, but we do the work. Order the assembled Air Speeder and pick:

  • Your club: driver, mini driver or fairway wood
  • Your adapter tip, installed and set to your hosel setting: Callaway, Cleveland, Cobra, Krank, Mizuno, Ping, PXG, Srixon, TaylorMade, Titleist, Tour Edge or Wilson
  • Your length: the standard length for your head, a custom length, or left uncut
  • Your grip, logo up or down, with extra wraps of tape if you want them

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this come with a grip or adapter?

No. This listing is the bare 46" shaft, nothing installed, nothing cut. If you want it ready to screw into your head, order the assembled Air Speeder instead and choose your adapter, length and grip at checkout.

Will a lighter shaft actually give me more distance?

For the golfer it's built for, usually yes, and the gain comes from club speed. Shave a few grams and most slower swings pick up a mile an hour or two without changing anything else. The catch is the other direction: if you're already over 90 mph, a shaft this light tends to cost you control, and you lose more to the miss than you gain in speed.

How is it different from the Ventus White?

Both are light and both launch high. The Air Speeder carries 7.5 to 9.0 torque against the White's 5.0, so it loads easily and feels smooth for a slower, even tempo. The Ventus White has a firm tip and the VeloCore+ core, so it holds the face steadier for quicker tempos and faster swings, with a touch more spin on Fujikura's chart. Under about 80 mph with a smooth move, we'd point you here. In the 80s and 90s, or with a fast transition, go White.

Can I use it in a fairway wood?

Yes. The same shaft goes in a 3 wood with no tip trim, and for a 5 wood and up follow Fujikura's chart above. Plenty of golfers like a touch more stiffness in the fairway than in the driver, so if you play the R in your driver, the S is worth a look in the 3 wood.

Is the R3 really a ladies flex, or just a softer regular?

It's a true R3, the softest and lightest option in the lineup at 40.5 g, with the highest torque of the four. R2 is the senior flex, and R and S are regular and stiff. The labels are a starting point. Pick by your speed and tempo, not by who the label was written for.
