WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

The Fujikura Ventus Black with VeloCore+ is the low-launch, low-spin shaft in the Ventus family, for fast swings that already get the ball up and need the flight brought down and tightened. The tip is ultra-stiff, the midsection is stiff and the handle is ultra-stiff too, with a high bend point, so neither end of the shaft gives at impact. This is the raw shaft: 46" uncut, 3.0" parallel tip, 0.335" tip diameter, in 8 options from a 5 S to a 9 X, S and X flex only. If you build your own clubs or have a shop you trust, this is the listing you want.

Not sure Black is your profile? Take the 2-Minute Shaft Quiz or compare every profile in our Fujikura Ventus Shaft Guide.

Who It's For

Good fit if you...

  • Swing a driver 95 mph or faster and still see too much height and spin out of a stiff shaft
  • Load the shaft hard from the top and want a handle that stays put through transition
  • Want a flat, penetrating flight that holds its line in the wind
  • Build your own clubs or have a fitter who'll cut, tip and install it for you

Not the right fit if you...

  • Swing under about 95 mph or have a smooth tempo. The Ventus Blue keeps the spin low with a profile you can load, and the Ventus Red adds launch on top of that
  • Need an R or R2 flex. The Black only comes in S and X, and the Blue and Red cover the softer flexes
  • Want it cut to length with the adapter and grip already on, ready to screw into your driver. Order the assembled Ventus Black instead

How It Plays

Stiff at both ends, on purpose. The ultra-stiff tip stops the shaft kicking through early at the bottom, and the ultra-stiff handle keeps the butt end from loading up at the top. Between them, the launch gets held down from both directions. This isn't a shaft that rewards easing up on it. Give it a full, committed move and it stays dead quiet through the ball.

Low launch and low spin in every option. All 8 are rated the same way, with a high bend point. That bend point sounds backwards for a low launcher, and it would be if bend point were the whole story. It isn't. The stiffness of the sections on either side of it is what decides how the shaft releases, and on the Black those sections overrule where it bends.

The core is the whole point. VeloCore+ is a multi-material bias core that runs the full length of the shaft and keeps the tip from twisting on heel and toe hits. The plus version adds another core material over the original VeloCore, and the goal is the same: tighter dispersion and a little more ball speed on the hits that aren't flush. By Fujikura's count, this is the shaft that was in the driver of every 2025 men's major champion.

Picking a weight and flex, and what to tip

  • Weight before flex. The Black 5 is 59.5 g, the Black 6 is 66 to 66.5 g and the Black 7 is 75 to 75.5 g. If your current driver shaft is in the low 60s, start with the Black 6. When you want more stability, go up a series before you go up a flex, because the heavier shaft calms the head without making the whole club feel stiff.
  • S or X. Go by your transition, not just your speed. A quick, aggressive move from the top wants the X. A smoother tempo at the same speed is happier in the S. If you're on the fence, take the S, because the Black is already the firmest profile in the family and the X on top of that is a lot of shaft.
  • The 8 and 9 series are fairway weights. At 84 and 93 g, X flex only, they're built for 3 woods and up and for the mini driver crowd. Very few golfers want that much shaft in a full-size driver.
  • Tip trimming. Fujikura's chart is 0" for a driver or 3 wood, 0.5" for a 5 wood, 1.0" for a 7 wood and 1.5" for a 9 wood, and every inch you tip is roughly one flex stiffer. The chart calls those suggestions, and Fujikura doesn't generally recommend tipping a driver or 3 wood shaft at all. Want to sit between S and X? Tip 0.5" and butt trim to length.

Graphite. Raw length 46", parallel tip section 3.0", tip diameter 0.335" (our measurement; the tip diameter isn't on Fujikura's chart). Tip flex and butt flex are Fujikura's stiffness ratings; within a model, the stiffer flex has the lower number.

Profile Launch Spin Bend Point Tip / Mid / Handle Weights Our Speed Guide
Ventus White High Mid-high Low Firm / Medium / Soft 49.5 g 70 to 95 mph
Ventus Red Mid-high Mid Low Stiff / Firm / Ultra-stiff 59 to 94.5 g 70 to 105 mph

Launch, spin, bend point and section stiffness are Fujikura's ratings. The speed column is our fitting guidance from building these for customers, not a Fujikura number. Want the Black flight with Spread Tow fabric in the mid and handle for a quicker transition? That's the 2026 Ventus TR Black. The whole brand lineup is in The Fujikura Shaft Guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

I'm right around 95 mph. Black or Blue?

Blue, most of the time. It's rated the same low spin as the Black, so you keep the spin control, and the firm handle gives you a profile you can actually load at that speed. The Black earns its place when you're already launching a Blue too high, or when your transition is quick enough that the Blue's handle feels like it moves on you. If neither of those describes you, the Blue will likely go farther.

Is this the same Ventus Black that came stock in my driver?

Probably not. Most stock "Ventus Black" shafts that ship in OEM drivers are made-for versions without VeloCore, and they play softer and spin more than this one. This is the full aftermarket shaft with VeloCore+. If the stock version felt fine but never quite held the face on a heel strike, that's the part that changes.

Do I need an adapter to use this shaft?

Only if your driver or fairway has an adjustable hosel, which most do. The 0.335" tip fits every current adapter, and you can pick one up from our shaft adapters. If you'd rather not epoxy it yourself, the assembled listing includes the adapter and the install.

Which Black goes in my 3 wood?

Go one series heavier than your driver. A Black 6 driver player usually ends up with a Black 7 or 8 in the 3 wood, and the 9 X is the one for a 7 wood or 9 wood where you want the spin held down off a higher loft. No tip trim for a 3 wood. For a 5 wood and up, follow Fujikura's chart in the callout above.

Does this come with a grip or adapter?

No. This listing is the bare 46" shaft, nothing installed, nothing cut. If you want it ready to screw into your head, order the assembled Ventus Black instead and choose your adapter, length and grip at checkout.
