WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

The Fujikura Ventus Red with the original VeloCore is the higher-launching driver shaft of the first Ventus line, built for golfers who need more height and carry but don't want to trade away stability to get it. Mid-high launch, mid spin and a low bend point, with a stiff tip, a firm mid and an ultra-stiff handle that stays quiet in transition. You pick from 8 weight and flex options, 5 R2 through 9 X, and it arrives with your adapter tip and grip installed, cut to length, ready to screw into your driver or fairway wood.

Not sure Red is your profile? Take the 2-Minute Shaft Quiz or compare every profile in our Fujikura Ventus Shaft Guide.

This is the original VeloCore version. Fujikura's current Ventus Red is built on VeloCore+, which adds another material to the multi-material bias core, aimed at tighter dispersion and more ball speed on mishits. The profile is the same mid-high launch and mid spin, and the current version adds options we never stocked in the original, including a 6 X and an 8 series. If you want the newest build, order the assembled Ventus Red VeloCore+. If you already play the original and want it built to your specs, you're in the right place.

Who It's For

Good fit if you...

  • Launch it low or come up short on carry, and want more height without going to a soft, whippy shaft
  • Have a smoother tempo and want a shaft that loads lower down, where you can feel it
  • Already play the original Ventus Red and want the same shaft built to your specs, not the VeloCore+ update
  • Want a 3 wood that gets up off the deck, with the 7 series and the 9 X here for that job

Not the right fit if you...

  • Already launch it high or spin it too much. The original Ventus Blue brings both down with a mid bend point
  • Hit it high with a hard transition and want the flattest flight in the family. Go to the original Ventus Black
  • Want the newest construction, or a weight and flex we don't stock in the original, such as a 6 X or an 8 series. That's the assembled Ventus Red VeloCore+
  • Build your own clubs and just want the raw shaft. Grab the uncut original Ventus Red and save the build time

How It Plays

Height without the wobble. The low bend point is what gets the ball up. The part people don't expect in a higher-launching shaft is the ultra-stiff handle, which keeps the butt section from twisting while you load it. You get the extra launch without the extra miss.

Mid-high launch, mid spin, the easiest of the three to get airborne. Blue is mid launch and low spin with a mid bend point. Black is low launch, low spin, high bend point. Red is the one to pick when your driver flight is flat and your carry number is short, and it still has more spin than most golfers expect from a Ventus.

The core is the whole point. VeloCore is a multi-material bias core that runs the length of the shaft and keeps the tip from twisting on off-center hits. The VeloCore+ version that replaced it adds one more core material to the same idea. The goal didn't change between the two: a square face and ball speed on the hits that aren't flush.

Before you pick your options

  • Weight before flex. In the original Red the 5 series is 58 to 59 g, the 6 series 64.5 to 65 g, the 7 series 71 to 72 g and the 9 X is 94 g. If your current driver shaft is in the 50s, start with the 5. If it's in the 60s, the 6 R or 6 S. Go up a series before you go up a flex when you want more stability.
  • The 5 R2 is the softest option. R2 is what other brands call A or senior flex. It's the pick for a smooth tempo that needs the most help with launch, and it's the only R2 among the original Red, Blue and Black we stock.
  • Length is measured adapter tip to grip. The number you pick is the shaft assembly with no head on it. Choose the standard length option for your brand and you get that brand's stock playing length. For a custom length, remember the head adds roughly an inch, so a driver you want to play at 45.25" is about a 44.25" tip-to-grip build. Every half inch you take off costs about three swingweight points, so if you go shorter than stock, tell us and we can add tape under the grip or you can plan a heavier head weight.

Graphite. Raw length 46" before we cut it, parallel tip section 3.0", tip diameter 0.335" (our measurement; Fujikura's chart never listed tip diameter). Tip flex and butt flex are Fujikura's stiffness ratings; within a model, the stiffer flex has the lower number.

Specs carried from our previous listing; Fujikura no longer publishes a chart for this version.

How the Original Ventus Family Compares

Profile Launch Spin Bend Point Tip / Mid / Handle Weights We Stock
Ventus Red (You're here) Mid-high Mid Low (9 X: low-mid) Stiff / Firm / Ultra-stiff 58 to 94 g
Ventus Blue Mid Low Mid Ultra-stiff / Stiff / Firm 58.5 to 86 g
Ventus Black Low Low High Ultra-stiff / Stiff / Ultra-stiff 58 to 77 g

Launch, spin, bend point and section stiffness are Fujikura's ratings for the original line, carried from our listings. The weight column is what we stock in the original VeloCore version, not Fujikura's full range. Want the Red profile with Spread Tow fabric in the mid and handle? That's the assembled original Ventus TR Red. The whole brand lineup is in The Fujikura Shaft Guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know which series to order?

The series number is the weight class, not the flex. A 5 series is in the high 50s in grams, a 6 in the mid 60s, a 7 in the low 70s, and the flex letter is a separate choice. The right weight depends on your speed, your tempo, how strong you are and the flight you're after. If you want a recommendation, send us your age, how far you carry your driver or your swing speed, your handicap and whether you're chasing distance or accuracy, and we'll pick the series and flex for you.

Is the 5 R2 a senior flex?

Yes. R2 is Fujikura's name for what other brands call A or senior flex, one step softer than regular. It's the only R2 among the original Red, Blue and Black we stock, and it's the option we'd point a smoother, slower swing toward.

How long before it ships?

It's built to order, so allow 2 to 3 extra business days for the build before your chosen shipping speed kicks in. If you're up against a trip or a tournament, contact us before you order and we'll tell you whether the timing works.

I want it half an inch shorter than stock. What length do I order?

Our length dropdown is measured from the adapter tip to the end of the grip, with no head on it. The standard length option for your brand is that brand's stock length, so for half an inch shorter, pick a custom length half an inch under that number. If you'd rather tell us the finished playing length you want, contact us with your head model and we'll work out the tip-to-grip number, since the head adds length (about an inch on most drivers).

Can I use this in a fairway wood?

Yes. Choose the fairway wood option and your adapter when you add it to the cart. Most golfers go one series heavier in the fairway than in the driver, so a Red 6 driver player usually ends up with the 7 S or 7 X in the 3 wood. The 9 X is a strong player's 3 wood or mini driver shaft.

Not sure which shaft is right for your game?

Text our shaft experts at (818) 473-9086 before you order. We've been fitting golfers since 1991 and are happy to talk through your swing speed, current shaft, and what you're trying to fix.
