WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

The Fujikura Sakura 40 is a lightweight, high-launch driver and fairway shaft for golfers who need more carry, built with a softened mid and tip so the ball gets up with less effort. It's high launch, mid-high spin, with a low bend point, and it comes one way: 47.5 g in a single lite flex. It arrives with your adapter tip and grip installed, cut to length, ready to screw into your driver or fairway wood.

Who It's For

Good fit if you...

  • Swing a driver under about 75 mph and want more carry
  • Want a very light shaft that's easy to load, with no flex decision to make
  • Feel like you're working too hard with a heavier stock shaft
  • Want the same Sakura profile through the bag. The Sakura 40 hybrid and iron shaft is the matching one-length blank

Not the right fit if you...

  • Swing faster than about 80 mph, or already hit it too high. The assembled Ventus White is light with a firm tip and the VeloCore+ core
  • Want flex choices. The assembled Air Speeder comes in R3, R2, R and S at a similar weight
  • Build your own clubs and just want the raw shaft. Grab the uncut Sakura 40 and save the build time

How It Plays

Soft where it counts. Fujikura introduced the Sakura line in 2021 for golfers who need more carry, and the way it gets there is a softened mid and tip. The shaft bends low and late, the ball launches high, and the extra spin keeps it in the air. For a 65 mph swing that's not a flaw. That's the whole plan.

47.5 g and 8.4 degrees of torque. Light and forgiving, with a smooth feel that doesn't ask you to time anything. The high torque is part of the plan: at the speeds this shaft is built for, that twist is what lets it load without any effort from you.

One flex, on purpose. There's no R2 or S version of the Sakura wood, and that's the appeal for a lot of golfers: you either fit the window or you don't. If you're under about 75 mph, you fit. If you're faster or your transition is quick, the Air Speeder or the Ventus White gives you more to choose from.

Before you pick your options

  • Our window is under about 75 mph. That's our fitting guidance, not a Fujikura number. Past 75, look at the Air Speeder R or S, the stiffer flexes in that line.
  • Length is measured adapter tip to grip. The number you pick is the shaft assembly with no head on it. Choose the standard length option for your brand and you get that brand's stock playing length. For a custom length, remember the head adds roughly an inch, so a driver you want to play at 45.25" is about a 44.25" tip-to-grip build. Every half inch you take off costs about three swingweight points, so if you go shorter than stock, tell us and we can add tape under the grip or you can plan a heavier head weight. Slower swings often do better a little shorter than stock, so this is worth a conversation before you order.
  • The raw shaft is 45". That's an inch shorter than most Fujikura woods, so the "left uncut" option comes out an inch shorter here than it does on a 46" shaft.

Specifications

Graphite. Raw length 45" before we cut it, parallel tip section 2.95", tip diameter 0.335" (our measurement; the tip diameter isn't on Fujikura's chart). Tip flex and butt flex are Fujikura's stiffness ratings; within a model, the stiffer flex has the lower number.

How the Lightweight Fujikura Shafts Compare

Shaft Launch Spin Bend Point Weight Flexes We Sell Our Speed Guide
Sakura 40 (You're here) High Mid-high Low 47.5 g One lite flex Under 75 mph
Air Speeder High Mid Low 40.5 to 48 g R3, R2, R, S Up to 90 mph
Ventus White High Mid-high Low 49.5 g R2, R, S 70 to 95 mph

Launch, spin and bend point are Fujikura's ratings. The speed column is our fitting guidance from building these for customers, not a Fujikura number. Want the same profile in your hybrids and irons? The Sakura 40 hybrid and iron shaft is a 44 g one-length blank that works in both. The whole brand lineup is in The Fujikura Shaft Guide.

Prefer to Build It Yourself?

The same shaft is available uncut with nothing installed: the Fujikura Sakura 40 Driver & Fairway Shaft, in the same lite flex. Pair it with an adapter from our OEM shaft adapters and you're set. See every assembled shaft we build, or browse all driver and fairway shafts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Sakura a women's shaft?

It's built for slow swing speeds, not for one group of golfers. Anyone under about 75 mph who wants a light, high-launch driver shaft can play it, and that includes plenty of men who've lost a little speed and don't want to fight a stock regular anymore.

I want it half an inch shorter than stock. What length do I order?

Our length dropdown is measured from the adapter tip to the end of the grip, with no head on it. The standard length option for your brand is that brand's stock length, so for half an inch shorter, pick a custom length half an inch under that number. If you'd rather tell us the finished playing length you want, contact us with your head model and we'll work out the tip-to-grip number, since the head adds length (about an inch on most drivers).

Do you have an adapter for my Tour Edge driver?

Yes. Tour Edge is in the adapter dropdown, and the E725 sleeve is on the list. If your head isn't listed under any brand, contact us before you order and we'll tell you whether we can fit it.

Can this be built for a fairway wood?

Yes. Choose the fairway wood option and your adapter when you add it to the cart. Fairway builds run from 38.5" to 43.5" adapter tip to grip, or at the standard length for your head. At 47.5 g it makes a fairway wood that's easy to get airborne off the deck, which is usually the reason a slower swing wants one.

Sakura or Air Speeder?

Both are light and both launch high. The Sakura is one shaft, one flex, with a bit more spin on Fujikura's chart. The Air Speeder gives you four flexes and a touch less spin. Under 70 mph and want it simple, take the Sakura. Need an R or S, or want to fine-tune, take the Air Speeder.

Not sure which shaft is right for your game?

Text our shaft experts at (818) 473-9086 before you order. We've been fitting golfers since 1991 and are happy to talk through your swing speed, current shaft, and what you're trying to fix.
