WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

The Fujikura Sakura 40 Hybrid/Iron is the lightest iron shaft we carry from Fujikura: 44 g, with the mid and tip sections softened so the ball gets up and carries. It's rated high launch, mid-high spin, low bend point, and it's the partner to the Sakura 40 wood shaft, built for golfers who need help with height and carry more than they need a tighter flight. This is one 40" blank with a 0.370" parallel tip, one flex, and the same shaft goes into a hybrid or an iron. Order one for each club you're reshafting.

Not sure a light, high-launch shaft is what you need? Take the 2-Minute Shaft Quiz or compare every family in The Fujikura Shaft Guide.

Who It's For

Good fit if you...

  • Swing at a moderate pace and need the ball higher in the air to carry it, in your irons or your hybrids
  • Want the lightest shaft that still feels smooth, not loose, at 44 g
  • Play the Sakura 40 in your woods and want the same feel through the rest of the bag
  • Have irons or hybrids with a 0.370" parallel hosel, or a builder who trims parallel blanks

Not the right fit if you...

  • Want more weight and a choice of flex. The Vista Pro Iron runs 49 to 75 g in ladies, senior, regular and stiff, and launches high in the 40 to 60 series
  • Hit it high enough already and want a flatter, steadier flight. See the Axiom 0.370" parallel, rated mid to low-mid launch
  • Have irons with a 0.355" taper hosel. This shaft is 0.370" parallel only, and the Axiom 0.355" taper comes made for each iron

How It Plays

Soft in the middle and the tip, on purpose. That's where the launch comes from. The tip bends more through impact, so the ball starts higher with more spin, and the low bend point helps a slower swing get the head released. If you've been hitting hybrids and long irons that fly low and run out, this is the profile that fixes it.

Light without feeling empty. At 44 g with 4.9 degrees of torque it's lighter than any other Fujikura iron shaft we carry. The weight makes the club easier to swing and easier to square, and because the tip is already soft you still feel where the head is. It's a smooth feel, not a whippy one.

One blank, two kinds of club. It comes as a single 40" blank with a 5.9" parallel tip section, so the same shaft works in a hybrid or an iron. You trim the tip for the club and the butt for the length. That's handy if you want one feel from the 4-hybrid down through the irons.

Building with it

  • One shaft for each club. Order a blank for every iron or hybrid you're reshafting. It's one flex, so the only choices are tip trim and length.
  • Tip trimming in a hybrid. Fujikura's hybrid chart is 0" for a 15 to 20 degree head, 0.5" for 21 to 23 degrees, 1.0" for 24 to 27 degrees and 1.5" for 28 degrees, and every inch you tip is roughly one flex stiffer. Then butt trim to length.
  • Tip trimming in an iron. Fujikura's chart on the page we checked covers woods and hybrids by loft, not irons by number. The parallel section is 5.9", so go by your builder's chart for parallel iron blanks or contact us before you cut.
  • Matching the woods. If you play the Sakura 40 wood shaft in your driver and fairways, this is the shaft that carries the same soft, high-launch feel into the hybrids and irons, and it's a sensible way to get one feel across the whole set.

Graphite. Raw length 40", parallel tip section 5.9", tip diameter 0.370" (our measurement from this listing; Fujikura's chart doesn't print tip diameter). It comes in one flex, the 40, and our dropdown calls it Lite. Tip flex and butt flex are Fujikura's stiffness ratings; within a model, the stiffer flex has the lower number.

How the Sakura Family Compares

Shaft Launch Spin Bend Point Weight Torque Raw Length
Sakura 40 Wood High Mid-high Low 47.5 g 8.4 45"
Sakura 40 Hybrid/Iron (You're here) High Mid-high Low 44 g 4.9 40"

Launch, spin, bend point, weight and torque are Fujikura's ratings. The wood shaft has a 0.335" tip and the hybrid/iron shaft a 0.370" tip, both our measurements. Want the same light, high-launch idea with a flex choice? The Vista Pro Iron 40 series is the next step up at 49 g. The whole brand lineup is in The Fujikura Shaft Guide.

Related Shafts and Collections

We don't build the Sakura 40 Hybrid/Iron assembled; it ships as the raw blank. For the matching wood shaft, see the Sakura 40 Driver & Fairway Shaft. For a hybrid that comes with the adapter and grip installed, the assembled Vista Pro Hybrid launches high in the 40 and 50 series.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I really use the same shaft in a hybrid and an iron?

Yes. It's a one-length blank meant for both. The difference is in the trimming: a hybrid gets Fujikura's loft-based tip trim and then a butt cut to length, and an iron gets tipped by your builder's parallel iron chart. Order one blank for each club either way.

Which flex should I pick?

There's only one. The Sakura 40 Hybrid/Iron comes in a single flex, the 40, and our dropdown lists it as Lite. It's a soft shaft by design, so if you're a regular-flex player who just wants something lighter, the Vista Pro Iron 50 or 60 series is the better fit. This one is for golfers who need launch and don't swing hard.

How does it compare to the Vista Pro Iron 40?

Both launch high with a low bend point. The Sakura is lighter (44 g against 49 g) and softer, and comes in one flex. The Vista Pro Iron 40 comes in a ladies R3 and a senior R2, so it's the pick if you want a choice of flex or a little more weight in your hands. If weight is the whole point, the Sakura wins.

Does it come with a grip, or cut to length?

No. This is the bare 40" blank, nothing cut, nothing installed. If you'd like us to cut and install a set, contact us with your club models and lengths before you order.

Will this shaft fit your irons?

Check before you buy. Takes about 20 seconds.
