WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

The Fujikura Ventus TR Red is the mid-high launch, mid-low spin profile in the original Ventus TR line, with the softest tip of the three TR shafts and the same Spread Tow fabric in the mid and handle that cuts twist through transition. Think of it as the Ventus Red with a steadier handle and a touch less spin. This is the raw shaft: 46" uncut, 3.0" parallel tip, 0.335" tip diameter, in 9 options from a 5 R2 at 59 g to an 8 X at 89.5 g. Build your own clubs or hand it to a fitter you trust.

Not sure TR Red is your profile? Take the 2-Minute Shaft Quiz or compare every profile in our Fujikura Ventus Shaft Guide.

This is the original Ventus TR Red, with VeloCore and Spread Tow. The current version is the 2026 Ventus TR Red VeloCore+. It keeps the Spread Tow fabric and swaps in the VeloCore+ core, a multi-material bias core with one more core material than the original, carries the same mid-high launch, mid-low spin rating on Fujikura's chart, and adds a 9 X at 96 g. If you already play this generation and like it, there's no reason to move. If you're buying your first TR Red, look at both.

Who It's For

Good fit if you...

  • Launch it low or lose carry, and want height without the spin that usually comes with it
  • Have a quick transition but need a softer tip than the TR Blue to get the ball up
  • Play a Ventus Red and want the steadier handle with a touch less spin
  • Build your own clubs or have a fitter who'll cut, tip and install it for you

Not the right fit if you...

  • Already launch it mid or high and want spin down. The TR Blue is mid launch, low spin with a stiffer tip
  • Launch it high and spin it even in a stiff shaft. The TR Black is the lowest flight in the TR line
  • Want it cut to length with the adapter and grip already on, ready to screw into your driver. Order the assembled TR Red instead

How It Plays

The softest tip in the TR line. At any series and flex the TR Red carries the highest tip flex number of the three, so the tip releases a little more through impact and the ball starts higher. That's where the mid-high launch comes from. Spin stays mid-low because the mid and handle don't give, so you get the height without the ballooning you'd get from a soft shaft.

Spread Tow where the stress is. Spread Tow is an ultra-light carbon fabric laid into the mid and handle sections, and its job is to keep those sections from twisting and going out of round while you load the shaft. What you feel is a handle that stays on plane through transition instead of lagging behind a fast move. Pairing that handle with a softer tip is what separates the TR Red from the regular Ventus Red: it feels like the Red at impact, with less movement on the way down.

Mid bend point, with two exceptions. Every TR Red option is rated mid-high launch and mid-low spin. The bend point is mid in the 5 and 6 series and the 7 S, and mid-high in the 7 X and 8 X, so those two fly a touch flatter. VeloCore, the multi-material bias core, keeps the tip from twisting on off-center hits.

Picking a weight and flex, and what to tip

  • Weight before flex. The 5 series is 59 to 59.5 g, the 6 is 67.5 to 69.5, the 7 is 77 to 78 and the 8 X is 89.5. If your driver shaft today is in the high 50s, start with the TR Red 5. When you want more stability, go up a series before you go up a flex.
  • The 5 R2 is the softest option. It has the softest tip and butt numbers on the chart (120 and 98), for slower swings that still want the TR handle. A smooth-tempo R flex player is usually better off starting in the 5 R.
  • 7 X and 8 X for the fairway. Those two carry the mid-high bend point and the heaviest weights, which is why they're the 3 wood and 5 wood picks in this line.
  • Tip trimming. Fujikura's chart is 0" for a driver or 3 wood, 0.5" for a 5 wood, 1.0" for a 7 wood and 1.5" for a 9 wood, and every inch you tip is roughly one flex stiffer. Want to sit between S and X? Tip 0.5" and butt trim to length.

Graphite. Raw length 46", parallel tip section 3.0", tip diameter 0.335" (our measurement; the tip diameter isn't on Fujikura's chart). Tip flex and butt flex are Fujikura's stiffness ratings; within a model, the stiffer flex has the lower number.

How the Original Ventus TR Line Compares

Profile Launch Spin Bend Point Weights
TR Red (You're here) Mid-high Mid-low Mid (7 X and 8 X: mid-high) 59 to 89.5 g
TR Blue Mid Low Mid 56 to 97 g
TR Black Low Low High 59 to 89 g

Launch, spin and bend point are Fujikura's ratings. Line the three up at the same series and flex and the TR Red carries the highest tip flex number, so its tip is the softest of the three; the TR Black carries the lowest. Want the Red profile without the Spread Tow layer? That's the original Ventus Red. The whole brand lineup is in The Fujikura Shaft Guide.

Want It Built and Ready to Play?

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between the Ventus Red and the TR Red?

The fabric in the mid and handle. Your original Ventus Red is the regular profile with VeloCore. The TR Red adds Spread Tow from the mid section up, which gives it a stiffer, steadier handle and takes a touch of launch and spin off. In practice the TR Red sits between the regular Red and the regular Blue, so if the Red is a little too lively for you and the Blue is too low, this is the shaft in between.

Do I need an adapter to use this shaft?

Only if your driver or fairway has an adjustable hosel, which most do. The 0.335" tip fits every current adapter, and you can pick one up from our shaft adapters. If you'd rather not epoxy it yourself, the assembled listing includes the adapter and the install.

Does it work in a fairway wood?

Yes. The 7 X and 8 X are the usual 3 wood picks, one series heavier than what you'd play in the driver. Follow Fujikura's tip trim chart above for 5 woods and up.

I'm between R and S. Which way do I go?

Go by your transition, not just your speed. A quick, aggressive move from the top wants the S. A smooth tempo at the same speed is happier in the R. If you're smooth and you've been playing a stiff shaft that feels boardy, the 5 R or 6 R is worth a look.

Does this come with a grip or adapter?

No. This listing is the bare 46" shaft, nothing installed, nothing cut. If you want it ready to screw into your head, order the assembled TR Red instead and choose your adapter, length and grip at checkout.
