WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

The Fujikura Ventus Red with the original VeloCore is the higher-launching profile of the first Ventus line: mid-high launch, mid spin, with a low bend point that helps the ball get up without giving away the stability the family is known for. The tip is stiff, the mid is firm and the handle is ultra-stiff, so the shaft loads lower down and stays quiet in transition. This is the raw shaft: 46" uncut, 3.0" parallel tip, 0.335" tip diameter, in 8 options from a 5 R2 to a 9 X. If you build your own clubs or have a shop you trust, this is the listing you want.

Not sure Red is your profile? Take the 2-Minute Shaft Quiz or compare every profile in our Fujikura Ventus Shaft Guide.

This is the original VeloCore version. Fujikura's current Ventus Red is built on VeloCore+, which adds another material to the multi-material bias core, aimed at tighter dispersion and more ball speed on mishits. The profile is the same mid-high launch and mid spin, and the current version adds options we never stocked in the original, including a 6 X and an 8 series. If you want the newest build, order the Ventus Red VeloCore+. If you already play the original and want to match it, you're in the right place.

Who It's For

Good fit if you...

  • Launch it low or come up short on carry, and want more height without going to a soft, whippy shaft
  • Have a smoother tempo and want a shaft that loads lower down, where you can feel it
  • Already play the original Ventus Red and want to match it, not the VeloCore+ update
  • Build your own clubs or have a fitter who'll cut, tip and install it for you

Not the right fit if you...

  • Already launch it high or spin it too much. The original Ventus Blue brings both down with a mid bend point
  • Hit it high with a hard transition and want the flattest flight in the family. That's the original Ventus Black
  • Want the newest construction with a 6 X or an 8 series. The Ventus Red VeloCore+ has them
  • Want it cut to length with the adapter and grip already on, ready to screw into your driver. Order the assembled original Ventus Red instead

How It Plays

Height without the wobble. The low bend point is what gets the ball up. The part people don't expect in a higher-launching shaft is the ultra-stiff handle, which keeps the butt section from twisting while you load it. You get the extra launch without the extra miss.

Mid-high launch, mid spin, the easiest of the three to get airborne. Blue is mid launch and low spin with a mid bend point. Black is low launch, low spin, high bend point. Red is the one to pick when your driver flight is flat and your carry number is short, and it still has more spin than most golfers expect from a Ventus.

The core is the whole point. VeloCore is a multi-material bias core that runs the length of the shaft and keeps the tip from twisting on off-center hits. The VeloCore+ version that replaced it adds one more core material to the same idea. The goal didn't change between the two: a square face and ball speed on the hits that aren't flush.

Picking a weight and flex, and what to tip

  • Weight before flex. In the original Red the 5 series is 58 to 59 g, the 6 series 64.5 to 65 g, the 7 series 71 to 72 g and the 9 X is 94 g. If your current driver shaft is in the 50s, start with the 5. If it's in the 60s, the 6 R or 6 S. Go up a series before you go up a flex when you want more stability.
  • The 5 R2 is the softest option. R2 is what other brands call A or senior flex. It's the pick for a smooth tempo that needs the most help with launch, and it's the only R2 among the original Red, Blue and Black we stock.
  • The 9 X is a fairway weight. At 94 g in X flex with a low-mid bend point, it's a 3 wood or mini driver shaft for a strong player. It's not one we'd recommend for a driver.
  • Tip trimming. Fujikura's chart is 0" for a driver or 3 wood, 0.5" for a 5 wood, 1.0" for a 7 wood and 1.5" for a 9 wood, and every inch you tip is roughly one flex stiffer. Want to sit between S and X? Tip 0.5" and butt trim to length.

Graphite. Raw length 46", parallel tip section 3.0", tip diameter 0.335" (our measurement; Fujikura's chart never listed tip diameter). Tip flex and butt flex are Fujikura's stiffness ratings; within a model, the stiffer flex has the lower number.

How the Original Ventus Family Compares

Profile Launch Spin Bend Point Tip / Mid / Handle Weights We Stock
Ventus Red (You're here) Mid-high Mid Low (9 X: low-mid) Stiff / Firm / Ultra-stiff 58 to 94 g
Ventus Blue Mid Low Mid Ultra-stiff / Stiff / Firm 58.5 to 86 g
Ventus Black Low Low High Ultra-stiff / Stiff / Ultra-stiff 58 to 77 g

Launch, spin, bend point and section stiffness are Fujikura's ratings for the original line, carried from our listings. The weight column is what we stock in the original VeloCore version, not Fujikura's full range. Want the Red profile with Spread Tow fabric in the mid and handle? That's the original Ventus TR Red. The whole brand lineup is in The Fujikura Shaft Guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does 5 R2 mean, and is that a senior flex?

The number is the series, which is the weight class, so a 5 series is in the high 50s in grams and a 6 series in the mid 60s. The letters are the flex: R2 is the softest, then R, S and X. R2 is what other brands call A or senior flex, so yes, the 5 R2 is the senior option.

I'm between the 5 S and the 6 R. Which one?

They solve different problems. The 5 S is lighter and stiffer, the 6 R is heavier and softer. A quick transition that wants the club to stay put is better in the 5 S. A smooth tempo that wants to feel the shaft load is better in the 6 R. If your miss is a hook, lean stiffer; if it's a weak slice, lean softer.

Do I need an adapter to use this shaft?

Only if your driver or fairway has an adjustable hosel, which most do. The 0.335" tip fits every current adapter, and you can pick one up from our shaft adapters. If you'd rather not epoxy it yourself, the assembled listing includes the adapter and the install.

Does it work in a fairway wood?

Yes, and the Red profile is a good fit for a 3 wood off the deck because it helps the ball up. Most golfers go one series heavier in the fairway than in the driver, so a Red 6 driver player usually ends up with the 7 S or 7 X in the 3 wood, and the 9 X is there for a strong player. Follow Fujikura's tip trim chart above for 5 woods and up.

Does this come with a grip or adapter?

No. This listing is the bare 46" shaft, nothing installed, nothing cut. If you want it ready to screw into your head, order the assembled original Ventus Red instead and choose your adapter, length and grip at checkout.
