WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

The Fujikura Air Speeder is an ultralight driver and fairway shaft, redesigned for 2025 for golfers who swing under about 90 mph and want more club speed without swinging harder. It's high launch, mid spin, with a low bend point, and it weighs 40.5 to 48 g depending on flex, which makes it the lightest wood shaft on Fujikura's current chart. You pick one of four options from R3 to S, and it arrives with your adapter tip and grip installed, cut to length, ready to screw into your driver or fairway wood.

Who It's For

Good fit if you...

  • Swing a driver under about 90 mph and want more carry from a higher peak height
  • Feel like you're working too hard to get your current shaft moving
  • Need a real R3 or R2 flex and want it built right, with the adapter set to your hosel
  • Are replacing the stock shaft in your driver and want it ready to play on arrival

Not the right fit if you...

  • Swing much over 90 mph or already hit it too high. A shaft this light costs control as speed climbs. The assembled Ventus White is the light shaft with a firm tip and the VeloCore+ core
  • Want one simple lite-flex option with no flex decision. That's the assembled Sakura 40
  • Build your own clubs and just want the raw shaft. Grab the uncut Air Speeder and save the build time

How It Plays

Light enough to change your club speed. Fujikura's stated goal for the 2025 redesign was more swing speed, more ball speed, a higher peak and more carry, and the weight is how it gets there. For the golfer it's built for, the extra speed comes from the club getting out of the way, not from swinging harder.

High launch, mid spin, low bend point. The low bend point and high torque let the shaft load easily and help the ball up without you forcing it. Every flex carries the same launch and spin rating. What changes as you move from R3 to S is weight, stiffness and torque.

Torque is high, and that's on purpose. It runs from 9.0 in the R3 to 7.5 in the S, roughly double a Ventus. At the swing speeds this shaft is for, that twist is what gives it the smooth, easy-loading feel. If your move from the top is quick and aggressive, you'll feel that twist as looseness, and that's your sign to look at the Ventus White instead.

Before you pick your options

  • Go by swing speed first. Our fitting guidance: R3 under 60 mph, R2 about 60 to 70, R about 70 to 80 and S about 80 to 90. Fujikura doesn't publish speed ranges, so these are ours.
  • Tempo breaks the tie. Between two flexes, a smooth tempo takes the softer one and a quick move from the top takes the stiffer one. The S is where we'd start most golfers in the mid 80s who want to try an ultralight shaft.
  • Length is measured adapter tip to grip. The number you pick is the shaft assembly with no head on it. Choose the standard length option for your brand and you get that brand's stock playing length. For a custom length, remember the head adds roughly an inch, so a driver you want to play at 45.25" is about a 44.25" tip-to-grip build. Every half inch you take off costs about three swingweight points, so if you go shorter than stock, tell us and we can add tape under the grip or you can plan a heavier head weight. A shaft this light already drops the swingweight a little on its own, so going short on top of that is worth a conversation first.

Graphite. Raw length 46" before we cut it, parallel tip section 3.0", tip diameter 0.335" (our measurement; the tip diameter isn't on Fujikura's chart). Tip flex and butt flex are Fujikura's stiffness ratings; within a model, the stiffer flex has the lower number. Fujikura's chart lists the R3 as the Air Speeder 35 and the other three as the Air Speeder 40. Our dropdown groups all four under the 40 Series. Same four shafts.

How the Lightweight Fujikura Shafts Compare

Shaft Launch Spin Bend Point Weight Flexes We Sell Our Speed Guide
Air Speeder (You're here) High Mid Low 40.5 to 48 g R3, R2, R, S Up to 90 mph
Sakura 40 High Mid-high Low 47.5 g One lite flex Under 75 mph
Ventus White High Mid-high Low 49.5 g R2, R, S 70 to 95 mph

Launch, spin and bend point are Fujikura's ratings. The speed column is our fitting guidance from building these for customers, not a Fujikura number. Want a light shaft with the VeloCore+ core, a multi-material bias core that keeps the tip from twisting on off-center hits? That's the Ventus White. The whole brand lineup is in The Fujikura Shaft Guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does this compare to the Ventus White?

It's a question that comes up on this page. Both are light and both launch high, but they're different shafts. The Air Speeder has high torque and a low bend point, so it loads easily and makes a slow, smooth swing feel effortless, with the ball staying up longer. The Ventus White is built around stability, with a firm tip and the VeloCore+ core that keeps the face from twisting, and it handles a quick, aggressive move as well as an even tempo. Under about 80 mph with a smooth swing, this is the one. Faster than that, or with a fast transition, go White.

Is an ultralight shaft right for me?

It depends on your tempo as much as your speed. This one gives you club speed without forcing it, feels smooth from start to finish, and runs all the way down to an R3, which few shafts do. Some golfers never get comfortable with a shaft this light, though. If you can, hit one on a launch monitor or talk to a fitter before you commit, and if you're stuck between flexes, contact us with your speed and tempo before you order.

I want it half an inch shorter than stock. What length do I order?

Our length dropdown is measured from the adapter tip to the end of the grip, with no head on it. The standard length option for your brand is that brand's stock length, so for half an inch shorter, pick a custom length half an inch under that number. If you'd rather tell us the finished playing length you want, contact us with your head model and we'll work out the tip-to-grip number, since the head adds length (about an inch on most drivers).

Can this be built for a fairway wood?

Yes. Choose the fairway wood option and your adapter when you add it to the cart. Fairway builds run from 38.5" to 43.5" adapter tip to grip, or at the standard length for your head. If you play the R in your driver, the S is worth a look in the 3 wood, since plenty of golfers like a touch more stiffness in the fairway.

I'm left-handed. Is anything different about the build?

Nothing about the shaft itself. It isn't handed, and the specs and performance are identical. The only difference is the adapter: some brands make a separate left-handed sleeve, and we install the right one for your head. Just pick your brand and we'll take it from there.

Not sure which shaft is right for your game?

Text our shaft experts at (818) 473-9086 before you order. We've been fitting golfers since 1991 and are happy to talk through your swing speed, current shaft, and what you're trying to fix.
