WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

The Fujikura Air Speeder with the 2020 graphics is the earlier version of Fujikura's ultralight driver and fairway shaft, and this listing is the R2 senior flex at 44.5 g, the one build we carry in the original graphics. It's high launch, mid spin, with a low bend point, for golfers with slower swings who want more club speed without swinging harder. It arrives with your adapter tip and grip installed, cut to length, ready to screw into your driver or fairway wood.

Not sure a lightweight shaft is the answer? Take the 2-Minute Shaft Quiz or compare every model in The Fujikura Shaft Guide.

This is the earlier Air Speeder, with the 2020 graphics. The current version is the assembled 2025 Air Speeder, a redesign Fujikura aimed at more swing speed, more ball speed and a higher peak, built in four flexes from R3 to S. This page is the previous run, the silver finish with the red Air Speeder logo, and the one build we have left in it is the R2. If you need an R3, R or S, the 2025 page is where to go.

Who It's For

Good fit if you...

  • Swing a driver around 60 to 70 mph and want more carry from a higher peak height
  • Want a senior flex at 44.5 g that loads without any effort
  • Feel like you're working too hard to get your current shaft moving
  • Want it built right, with the adapter set to your hosel, ready to play on arrival

Not the right fit if you...

  • Swing faster than about 75 mph. The R2 is a senior flex and it will feel loose. The assembled 2025 Air Speeder has the R and S
  • Need an R3. The 2025 Air Speeder carries it, and it's the lightest of the four
  • Want a light shaft with less twist and a steadier face through impact. That's the assembled Ventus White
  • Build your own clubs and just want the raw shaft. Grab the uncut 2020 Air Speeder and save the build time

How It Plays

Light enough to change your club speed. At 44.5 g the shaft gets out of the way, and that's where the extra club speed comes from for a 60 to 70 mph swing. You don't swing harder. The club just moves faster because there's less of it to move.

High launch, mid spin, low bend point. The bend point sits low, so the shaft helps the ball up without piling on spin. Torque is 8.5 with a tip flex of 156 and a butt flex of 122 on Fujikura's scale, which is soft and forgiving by any shaft's standard. That's the point. At this swing speed you want the shaft to load for you, and a stiffer shaft would just feel like a board.

Before you pick your options

  • It's one option, so the question is whether R2 is your flex. Our fitting guidance for the R2 is a driver swing speed of about 60 to 70 mph. Under 60, look at the R3 on the 2025 page. Over 70, look at the R.
  • Length is measured adapter tip to grip. The number you pick is the shaft assembly with no head on it. Choose the standard length option for your brand and you get that brand's stock playing length. For a custom length, remember the head adds roughly an inch, so a driver you want to play at 45.25" is about a 44.25" tip-to-grip build. Every half inch you take off costs about three swingweight points, so if you go shorter than stock, tell us and we can add tape under the grip or you can plan a heavier head weight. A shaft this light already drops the swingweight a little on its own, so going short on top of that is worth a conversation first.

Model Flex Weight (g) Tip Flex Butt Flex Torque Butt Dia. Bend Pt. Spin Launch

Graphite. Raw length 46" before we cut it, parallel tip section 2.95", tip diameter 0.335" (our measurement; Fujikura doesn't print tip diameter). Tip flex and butt flex are Fujikura's stiffness ratings; within a model, the stiffer flex has the lower number. Fujikura printed 40 on this model; the FAQ below explains why our dropdown calls it the 45 Series.

How the Lightweight Fujikura Shafts Compare

Shaft Launch Spin Bend Point Weight Flexes We Sell Our Speed Guide
Air Speeder 2020 graphics (You're here) High Mid Low 44.5 g R2 About 60 to 70 mph
Air Speeder 2025 High Mid Low 40.5 to 48 g R3, R2, R, S Up to 90 mph
Sakura 40 High Mid-high Low 47.5 g One lite flex Under 75 mph
Ventus White High Mid-high Low 49.5 g R2, R, S 70 to 95 mph

Launch, spin and bend point are Fujikura's ratings. The speed column is our fitting guidance from building these for customers, not a Fujikura number. Want a light shaft with the VeloCore+ core, a multi-material bias core that keeps the tip from twisting on off-center hits? That's the Ventus White. The whole brand lineup is in The Fujikura Shaft Guide.

Prefer to Build It Yourself?

The same shaft is available uncut with nothing installed: the Fujikura Air Speeder Graphite Shaft (2020 graphics), in the same R2 flex. Pair it with an adapter from our OEM shaft adapters and you're set. See every assembled shaft we build, or browse all driver and fairway shafts.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an R2 flex, senior or regular?

Senior. It sits between the R3 ladies flex and the R regular flex. If you play a regular flex now and it feels like work, the R2 is the next step softer, and at 44.5 g it's a big drop in weight at the same time.

Why is the option called 45 Series when the shaft is printed 40?

Fujikura printed 40 on this model and called it the Air Speeder 40. We label our options by weight, and at 44.5 g this R2 falls in our 45 Series. It's the same shaft, just two naming systems.

I want it half an inch shorter than stock. What length do I order?

Our length dropdown is measured from the adapter tip to the end of the grip, with no head on it. The standard length option for your brand is that brand's stock length, so for half an inch shorter, pick a custom length half an inch under that number. If you'd rather tell us the finished playing length you want, contact us with your head model and we'll work out the tip-to-grip number, since the head adds length (about an inch on most drivers).

Can this be built for a fairway wood?

Yes. Choose the fairway wood option and your adapter when you add it to the cart. Fairway builds run from 38.5" to 43.5" adapter tip to grip, or at the standard length for your head. At 44.5 g in an R2 it makes a very easy-swinging 3 wood or 5 wood for the same 60 to 70 mph golfer.

Is this the same shaft as the 2025 Air Speeder?

Same family, earlier run. The 2025 version is a redesign with new graphics and four flexes instead of the one we have here. If you're matching a club you already play with the 2020 graphics, this is the one. If you're starting fresh, the assembled 2025 Air Speeder gives you more to choose from.

Not sure which shaft is right for your game?

Text our shaft experts at (818) 473-9086 before you order. We've been fitting golfers since 1991 and are happy to talk through your swing speed, current shaft, and what you're trying to fix.
