WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

The Fujikura Ventus TR Red with VeloCore is the original-generation TR Red: a mid-high launch, mid-low spin driver shaft with the softest tip in the TR line and Spread Tow fabric in the mid and handle for a steadier handle through transition. It's the Ventus Red with less give up top and a touch less spin. We sell it from the 5 to the 8 series, R2 through X, nine options, and it arrives with your adapter tip and grip installed, cut to length, ready to screw into your driver or fairway wood.

Not sure TR Red is your profile? Take the 2-Minute Shaft Quiz or compare every profile in our Fujikura Ventus Shaft Guide.

This is the original Ventus TR Red, with VeloCore and Spread Tow. The current version is the assembled 2026 Ventus TR Red VeloCore+. It keeps the Spread Tow fabric and swaps in the VeloCore+ core, a multi-material bias core with one more core material than the original, carries the same mid-high launch, mid-low spin rating on Fujikura's chart, and adds a 9 X at 96 g. If you already play this generation and like it, there's no reason to move. If you're buying your first TR Red, look at both.

Who It's For

Good fit if you...

  • Swing between 70 and 95 mph in R2 through S, or up to about 105 mph in the X
  • Want a mid-high flight with the spin under control
  • Play a Ventus Red and want the steadier handle with a touch less spin
  • Want a heavier 7 or 8 series build for a fairway wood, ready to play the day it arrives

Not the right fit if you...

  • Already launch it mid or high and want spin down. The TR Blue is mid launch, low spin with a stiffer tip
  • Launch it high and spin it even in a stiff shaft. The TR Black is the lowest flight in the TR line
  • Build your own clubs and just want the raw shaft. Grab the uncut TR Red and save the build time

How It Plays

The softest tip in the TR line. At any series and flex the TR Red carries the highest tip flex number of the three, so the tip releases a little more through impact and the ball starts higher. That's where the mid-high launch comes from. Spin stays mid-low because the mid and handle don't give, so you get the height without the ballooning you'd get from a soft shaft.

Spread Tow where the stress is. Spread Tow is an ultra-light carbon fabric laid into the mid and handle sections to keep them from twisting and going out of round while you load the shaft. Pairing that handle with a softer tip is what separates the TR Red from the regular Ventus Red: it feels like the Red at impact, with less movement on the way down.

Mid bend point, with two exceptions. Every TR Red option is rated mid-high launch and mid-low spin. The bend point is mid in the 5 and 6 series and the 7 S, and mid-high in the 7 X and 8 X, so those two fly a touch flatter. VeloCore, the multi-material bias core, keeps the tip from twisting on off-center hits.

Before you pick your options

  • Weight before flex. The 5 series is 59 to 59.5 g, the 6 is 67.5 to 69.5, the 7 is 77 to 78 and the 8 X is 89.5. If your driver shaft today is in the high 50s, start with the TR Red 5. When you want more stability, go up a series before you go up a flex.
  • The 5 R2 is the softest option. It has the softest tip and butt numbers on the chart (120 and 98), for slower swings that still want the TR handle. A smooth-tempo R flex player is usually better off starting in the 5 R.
  • Length is measured adapter tip to grip. The number you pick is the shaft assembly with no head on it. Choose the standard length option for your brand and you get that brand's stock playing length. For a custom length, remember the head adds roughly an inch, so a driver you want to play at 45.25" is about a 44.25" tip-to-grip build. Every half inch you take off costs about three swingweight points, so if you go shorter than stock, tell us and we can add tape under the grip or you can plan a heavier head weight.

Graphite. Raw length 46" before we cut it, parallel tip section 3.0", tip diameter 0.335" (our measurement; the tip diameter isn't on Fujikura's chart). Tip flex and butt flex are Fujikura's stiffness ratings; within a model, the stiffer flex has the lower number.

How the Original Ventus TR Line Compares

Profile Launch Spin Bend Point Weights Our Speed Guide
TR Red (You're here) Mid-high Mid-low Mid (7 X and 8 X: mid-high) 59 to 89.5 g 70 to 105 mph
TR Blue Mid Low Mid 56 to 97 g 85 to 110 mph
TR Black Low Low High 59 to 89 g 100+ mph

Launch, spin and bend point are Fujikura's ratings. Line the three up at the same series and flex and the TR Red carries the highest tip flex number, so its tip is the softest of the three; the TR Black carries the lowest. The speed column is our fitting guidance from building these for customers, not a Fujikura number. Want the Red profile without the Spread Tow layer? That's the assembled original Ventus Red. The whole brand lineup is in The Fujikura Shaft Guide.

Prefer to Build It Yourself?

The same shaft is available uncut with nothing installed: the Fujikura Ventus TR Red Driver & Fairway Shaft (Original VeloCore), in every weight and flex on this page. Pair it with an adapter from our OEM shaft adapters and you're set. See every assembled shaft we build, or browse all driver and fairway shafts.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between the Ventus Red and the TR Red?

The fabric in the mid and handle. Our assembled original Ventus Red is the regular profile with VeloCore. The TR Red adds Spread Tow from the mid section up, which gives it a stiffer, steadier handle and takes a touch of launch and spin off. In practice the TR Red sits between the regular Red and the regular Blue, so if the Red is a little too lively for you and the Blue is too low, this is the shaft in between.

I play a stock TR Red 5 R that doesn't say VeloCore. What's the match here?

Your stock shaft is a made-for version without the VeloCore core, so it plays softer and spins more than anything on this page. The TR Red 5 R here is the full aftermarket shaft and will feel steadier than what you have. When a customer asked us this exact question, we pointed them to the assembled Ventus Red VeloCore+ 5 R, the current regular Red profile. The like-for-like upgrade today is the assembled 2026 Ventus TR Red VeloCore+, which keeps the Spread Tow handle and adds the newer core. Any of the three is a step up in stability from a made-for; pick a TR if you want the stiffer handle.

Which flex should I play for my swing speed?

Our rule of thumb for the TR Red: R2 under about 80 mph, R from 80 to 90, S from 90 to 100, and X up to about 105 for golfers who still want a mid-high flight. If you're on a line between two, a quick transition wants the stiffer one and a smooth tempo wants the softer one.

I want it half an inch shorter than stock. What length do I order?

Our length dropdown is measured from the adapter tip to the end of the grip, with no head on it. The standard length option for your brand is that brand's stock length, so for half an inch shorter, pick a custom length half an inch under that number. If you'd rather tell us the finished playing length you want, contact us with your head model and we'll work out the tip-to-grip number, since the head adds length (about an inch on most drivers).

Can I use this in a fairway wood?

Yes. Choose the fairway wood option and your adapter when you add it to the cart. The 7 X and 8 X carry the mid-high bend point and the heaviest weights, so they're the usual 3 wood and 5 wood picks.

Not sure which shaft is right for your game?

Text our shaft experts at (818) 473-9086 before you order. We've been fitting golfers since 1991 and are happy to talk through your swing speed, current shaft, and what you're trying to fix.
