WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

The Fujikura Speeder NX Blue is the original Speeder NX profile: mid-high launch in every weight, with spin that comes down as you move up in weight, from mid-high in the 40 series to low-mid in the 60 and 70. The twisting stiffness is tuned section by section along the shaft, so it loads like a Speeder without feeling loose. This is the raw shaft: 46" uncut, 3.0" parallel tip, 0.335" tip diameter, in 8 weight and flex options from a 40 R at 47 g to a 70 X at 74.5 g. If you build your own clubs or have a shop you trust, this is the listing you want.

Not sure NX Blue is your profile? Take the 2-Minute Shaft Quiz or compare every Fujikura model in The Fujikura Shaft Guide.

This is the earlier Speeder NX profile

  • What's current. Fujikura's Speeder NX lineup today is the NX Violet and the NX Gold. The NX Blue is the generation before them, and it's no longer on Fujikura's current spec chart. The specs below are the ones we've published for it since we started stocking it.
  • What changed. The NX Violet keeps a bend profile similar to this one and tightens torque about 10% in the tip and butt, with R2 through X in every weight. The NX Gold stiffens the mid section for a mid launch and less spin.
  • Why you'd still buy this one. You already play an NX Blue and want a second one, a fairway version or a spare built the same way. If you're starting fresh, start with the Violet.

Who It's For

Good fit if you...

  • Want a mid-high flight from a light shaft, and want to bring spin down by going heavier rather than stiffer
  • Already play an NX Blue and want a spare, a fairway version or a second driver built the same way
  • Like a shaft that loads smoothly through the middle instead of fighting you through transition
  • Build your own clubs or have a fitter who'll cut, tip and install it for you

Not the right fit if you...

  • Want a lower, flatter flight with less spin. The NX Gold stiffens the mid section and is rated mid launch and low-mid spin from the 50 series up
  • Want the current version of this profile, or a flex we don't stock here. The NX Violet runs R2 through X in every weight
  • Need something lighter than 47 g for a slower swing. The Air Speeder runs 40.5 to 48 g with a high launch rating
  • Want it cut to length with the adapter and grip already on, ready to screw into your driver. Order the assembled NX Blue instead

How It Plays

Mid-high launch, and the weight sets the spin. Every NX Blue option is rated mid-high launch. What changes as you go up in weight is spin and bend point: the 40 series has a low bend point with mid-high spin, the 50 moves to a mid bend point and mid spin, and the 60 and 70 hold the mid bend point and drop to low-mid spin. Torque follows the same path, from 5.4 in the 40 to 2.9 in the 70. So if you like the flight but want the ball to stop climbing, go heavier before you go stiffer.

Torque tuned along the shaft, not one number end to end. Variable Torque Core is the build behind every Speeder NX, and it means what it sounds like: the twisting stiffness of the core is tuned differently in different sections of the shaft instead of being set once for the whole thing. You won't see it on the chart, which only lists one torque number for each weight; the tuning is in the layup. In your hands it's a Speeder that still loads through the middle without the loose, whippy feel a lighter shaft can have.

Where it sits in the family. The NX Violet is the current version of this profile: a similar bend profile with torque about 10% tighter in the tip and butt, and the same launch and spin ratings weight for weight. The NX Gold is the current flatter option: a stiffened mid section, rated mid launch and low-mid spin in the 50 and 60 series and low-mid launch with low spin in the 70. Of the four, the Blue and Violet are the two that launch mid-high in every weight.

Picking a weight and flex, and what to tip

  • Weight before flex. The 40 series is 47 to 50 g, the 50 is 54.5 to 56, the 60 is 62 to 65 and the 70 X is 74.5. If your current driver shaft is in the 60s, start with the 60 S or 60 X. When you want more stability, go up a series before you go up a flex. The heavier shaft calms the head without making the whole club feel stiff.
  • Check that your combination is on the list. This is an earlier generation, so we stock 8 options: R and S in the 40, S and X in the 50, SR, S and X in the 60, and X only in the 70. If the weight and flex you want isn't here, the NX Violet has R2 through X in every weight.
  • Tip trimming. Fujikura's chart is 0" for a driver or 3 wood, 0.5" for a 5 wood, 1.0" for a 7 wood and 1.5" for a 9 wood, and every inch you tip is roughly one flex stiffer. The chart is a set of suggestions, and it doesn't call for tipping a driver or 3 wood shaft. Want to sit between S and X in a 5 wood? Tip 0.5" and butt trim to length.
  • Adjustable hosel? You'll need an adapter. The 0.335" tip fits every current driver and fairway adapter. Pick one up from our shaft adapters, or let us install it for you on the assembled version.

The NX Blue and NX Green are earlier generations that aren't on that chart, so their rows are carried from our earlier listings. Fujikura doesn't publish a swing speed range for Speeder NX. The whole brand lineup is in The Fujikura Shaft Guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the same shaft as the NX Violet?

No. The Violet is the current generation. It's built on a bend profile similar to the Blue, with torque tightened about 10% in the tip and butt, and it comes in R2 through X in every weight. If you have an NX Blue you like and want another one built the same way, this is the listing. If you're buying your first Speeder NX, start with the Violet and you'll have the full flex range to choose from.

Does it work in a fairway wood?

Yes. Most golfers go one series heavier in the fairway than in the driver, so a 60 S driver player usually ends up with the 70 X in the 3 wood, or a 60 X if the 70 X is too stiff. Follow Fujikura's tip trim chart above for 5 woods and up.

I'm between the 60 SR, 60 S and 60 X. Which way do I go?

Go by your transition, not just your speed. A quick, aggressive move from the top wants the stiffer of the two. A smooth tempo at the same speed is happier in the softer one. The 60 is the only series here with three flexes, so it's the easiest one to get right. If you're torn between the 50 S and the 60 S, take the 60. The extra weight does more for your miss than a flex change does.

Does this come with a grip or adapter?

No. This listing is the bare 46" shaft, nothing installed, nothing cut. If you want it ready to screw into your head, order the assembled NX Blue instead and choose your adapter, length and grip at checkout.
