WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

The Fujikura Ventus HB with VeloCore+ is the hybrid shaft in the Ventus line, and this listing covers all three profiles: Red for a higher flight with more spin, Blue for a mid flight, Black for a low, flat one. The stiff tip and the multi-material bias core keep the head from twisting through the turf, which is where most hybrid misses start. You pick from 18 profile, weight and flex options, from a Red 6 R2 at 65 g to a Black 10 X at 106 g, and it arrives with your hybrid adapter and grip installed, cut to your length, ready to screw into your head.

Not sure which profile is yours? Take the 2-Minute Shaft Quiz or compare every profile in our Fujikura Ventus Shaft Guide.

Who It's For

Good fit if you...

  • Play a Ventus in your driver or fairway and want that same stable, stiff tip in your hybrid
  • Hit hybrids that balloon, hook or both, and want a shaft that holds the face through the turf
  • Want to pick your hybrid flight on purpose: Red for height, Blue for mid, Black for a flatter ball
  • Want it built to your head, your length and your grip, so it's ready the day it arrives

Not the right fit if you...

  • Need a hybrid shaft under 65 g, or need help getting the ball up. The assembled Vista Pro Hybrid runs 48 to 75.5 g and launches high
  • Want the earlier Ventus hybrid with the original VeloCore core. That's the assembled original Ventus Blue HB, in 6 through 10 series
  • Have a hybrid with a glued, non-adjustable hosel. There's no adapter to install, so order the uncut Ventus HB and epoxy it in
  • Build your own clubs and just want the raw shaft. Grab the uncut Ventus HB and save the build time

How It Plays

Three flights from one shaft family. Red has a low bend point and the most spin, so the ball gets up fast and lands steep, which is what most golfers want from a 4 or 5 hybrid. Blue is the middle: mid launch, mid spin, mid bend point. Black has a high bend point and the lowest spin of the three, and it belongs in the hands of someone who already hits a hybrid high and wants it to stop climbing.

The core is the whole point. VeloCore+ is a multi-material bias core that runs the length of the shaft and keeps the tip from twisting on off-center hits. The plus version adds another core material over the original VeloCore. Fujikura's own claim for the HB is tighter dispersion and more speed, and in a hybrid that shows up as the long approach shot that lands pin high instead of a club short.

Heavier than a wood shaft, on purpose. Weights run from 65 g to 106 g, with torque from 3.5 on the Red 6 R2 down to 2.0 on the Black 10 X. A hybrid shaft should sit between your fairway shaft and your iron shafts so the set flows, and the 80 or 90 series is the usual starting point if you play steel irons.

Before you pick your options

  • Pick the profile by your hybrid flight, not your driver. If you play Ventus Blue in the driver, don't assume Blue in the hybrid. Red is often the better fit there, because the shorter club and the turf take launch away. Match the color to what the hybrid does now, not to what's in the bag.
  • Weight before flex. Each series step adds about 10 g. Start a series heavier than your fairway wood shaft and a touch lighter than your iron shafts. If you play 70 g in the fairway and 105 g steel in the irons, the 80 or 90 series is the natural spot. Want more stability? Go up a series before you go up a flex.
  • The Red 9 and Blue 10 are the odd ones. On Fujikura's chart the Red 9 X drops to mid launch and spin with a low-mid bend point, and the Blue 10 X steps up to a mid-high bend point. The Red 9 flies a touch flatter than the other Reds, and the Blue 10 keeps the mid launch and spin ratings with a higher kick point.
  • Length is measured adapter tip to grip. The number you pick is the shaft assembly with no head on it, and this listing has no standard-length preset, so measure your current hybrid: pull the head, lay the shaft flat and measure from the bottom of the adapter tip to the end of the grip. Order that number, anywhere from 37" to 42". If you only know the finished playing length, the head adds roughly an inch (it varies by model), so contact us with your head model and we'll work it out. Every half inch you take off costs about three swingweight points, so if you go shorter than stock, tell us and we can add tape under the grip or you can plan a heavier head weight.

Graphite. Raw length 42" before we cut it, parallel tip section 3.0", tip diameter 0.370" (our measurement; the tip diameter isn't on Fujikura's chart). Tip flex and butt flex are Fujikura's stiffness ratings; within a model, the stiffer flex has the lower number. Our 60, 70, 80, 90 and 105 Series options are Fujikura's 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 models.

How the Three Ventus HB Profiles Compare

You're here: all three profiles are options on this one listing, so every row is highlighted and the table is there to help you pick between them.

Profile Launch Spin Bend Point Weights Flexes
Ventus HB Red Mid-high (Red 9: mid) Mid-high (Red 9: mid) Low (Red 9: low-mid) 65 to 94.5 g R2, R, S, X
Ventus HB Blue Mid Mid Mid (Blue 10: mid-high) 73.5 to 104.5 g R, S, X
Ventus HB Black Low Low High 86.5 to 106 g S, X

Launch, spin and bend point are Fujikura's ratings. Weights and flexes are the options we build. Lighter and higher? That's the assembled Vista Pro Hybrid. The whole brand lineup is in The Fujikura Shaft Guide.

Prefer to Build It Yourself?

The same shaft is available uncut with nothing installed: the Fujikura Ventus HB VeloCore+ Hybrid Shaft, in every profile, weight and flex on this page. Pair it with an adapter from our OEM shaft adapters and you're set. See every assembled shaft we build, or browse all hybrid shafts.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the Ventus HB different from the Axiom hybrid?

Different jobs. The Ventus HB is the stiffer, more stable shaft with a stronger, flatter flight for its weight, and it's the one to pick if your hybrid miss is a hook or a ballooning shot. The assembled Axiom is built as an iron and hybrid shaft with the original VeloCore core, and it feels smoother through impact with a bit more help getting the ball up. If you want the hybrid to behave like a long iron, go Ventus HB. If you want it to feel like your iron shafts, go Axiom.

I play Ventus Blue in my driver. Should I get the Blue HB?

Not automatically. The hybrid is shorter, the loft is higher and the ball comes off the turf, so the flight you need from it is its own question. If your current hybrid flies fine and you just want more stability, stay in Blue. Coming out low and running? Go Red. Ballooning? Go Black. Go by the hybrid, not the driver.

What length do I order for a 3 or 4 hybrid?

It depends on the head, so measure the shaft that's in it now. Unscrew the head, lay the shaft flat and measure from the bottom of the adapter tip to the end of the grip. That's the number for our dropdown. No shaft to measure? Contact us with the head model and loft and we'll give you the number.

I'm left-handed. Is anything different about the build?

Nothing about the shaft itself. It isn't handed, and the specs and performance are identical. The only difference is the adapter: some brands make a separate left-handed sleeve, and we install the right one for your head. Just pick your brand and we'll take it from there.

Can I use it in a driving iron or utility iron?

Yes, as long as the head has an adapter we can install. The HB is built for hybrids and utility irons. A utility iron usually wants the Black or a heavier Blue, since you're trying to keep the flight down with a club that already launches lower than a hybrid. Tell us the head model when you order so we match the adapter.

Not sure which shaft is right for your game?

Text our shaft experts at (818) 473-9086 before you order. We've been fitting golfers since 1991 and are happy to talk through your swing speed, current shaft, and what you're trying to fix.
