It requires installation by a club builder — the adapter tip must be epoxied onto the shaft, cured, and trimmed to your desired playing length before it can be used. An assembled shaft is one that has already had the adapter tip epoxied and trimmed before shipping, so it arrives ready to drop into your clubhead with no tools or experience required. As a general starting point, Regular flex suits driver swing speeds under 85 mph, Stiff suits 85 to 100 mph, and X-Stiff suits 100 mph and above. However flex labeling varies between manufacturers, and tempo and transition aggressiveness matter as much as raw speed. A golfer with an aggressive downswing transition typically needs a stiffer flex than their swing speed alone would suggest.
