Hi Bob,
Great question.
We don’t have a single universal chart that covers standard adapter tip-to-grip lengths for every fairway wood model, because manufacturers vary their specifications by year, model, and loft. However, there are common industry baselines that fit the majority of modern fairway woods.
Typical playing lengths (OEM baseline)
-
3-wood: ~43.0"
-
5-wood: ~42.5"
-
7-wood: ~42.0"
-
9-wood: ~41.5"
Estimated adapter tip → grip lengths
A common rule of thumb is to subtract approximately ¾" from the playing length:
-
3-wood: ~42.25"
-
5-wood: ~41.75"
-
7-wood: ~41.25"
-
9-wood: ~40.75"
Important note:
The 0.75" deduction is an approximation and can vary depending on brand, head design, and adapter geometry. For example, Callaway fairway woods often run slightly longer than this baseline (e.g., Paradym models list a 43.25" 3-wood and 42.75" 5-wood as standard playing lengths).
Because of these differences, final length is always best confirmed after assembly.
If you’d like, let me know the specific brand and model you’re working with and I can provide a more precise recommendation.
Happy to help!
